Variable drivename doesn't work anymore

Submitted by memorix on December 21, 2009 - 3:52am

Hello,

I use the drivename of my USB-Stick as a variable in several sync-jobs. This worked very fine with version 2.2.1 prerelease. Since the final version 2.2.1 this doesn't work anymore. Can anyone confirm this?

For me working with drivenames is very handy, because the driveletter of USB-Drives can change on the same computer.

PS: Toucan is a great program if you become familiar with regex.

After Update to 2.2.1.0 - "There was an error reading from the jobs file" with following crash

Hello,

I've upgraded constantly to newer versions of toucan, but did not used it regulary.

Now, after upgrading to 2.2.1.0 I wanted to use it, but suddenly toucan didn't like the "old" and seldom changed jobs file and quits with a crash.

Any suggestions, how to handle this?

Regards,

Martin

Sync Progress & some Suggestions

Submitted by nokPT on December 18, 2009 - 1:46pm

I usually use SyncToy, but I'm having some errors and some fails in sync.

I started a sync between my company server and a portable hard disk.

My sync job is some what big: 26.379 Files, 2.576 Directories, 14,9GB

I’ve configured then sync job and made Preview, after a few minutes, it updated the destination tree

=> Suggestion: while in Preview, it should show some activity, SyncToy shows the path of the file.

After Preview, I pressed Run, a new window come up, saying:
“17:22:18 Starting”
“ Setting up progress bar”

Support for long filenames (including long path)

Hi,

I've tried looking for mention of this, but without much luck - apologies if this has been covered before.

Does Toucan have support for path+filename combinations that exceed 255 characters? I've been staggered recently to discover (last person to do so, it seems) that Windows will allow you to create a deep (or long) folder structure that ends up with a really long path+filename string.

Most copy programs barf when they see this which is very frustrating. SyncToy is the only sync tool that I can find which copes with this, but I'd much rather use Toucan.

Zip Encryption

First off thanks for this great application.

I am trying to figure out the level of encryption used with the backup option.

Looking over the code it would appear that when you select a backup format of zip with a password that no special switches other than -p and the password are put on the 7z command line. Based on this and if I am reading the 7z docs right you are only getting default encryption which is ZipCrypto and is rather weak.

I am pretty sure that selecting 7zip with a password will use AES256.

Does Mirror (in Sync) now copy everything?

Does Mirror (in Sync) now copy everything regardless of any changes in the source folder? Is there no Mirror update? Update does not remove items in the destination that have been removed in the source. Therefore, there is no longer a simple mirror update. This was a valuable important feature that i would like to have seen remain.

It gets stuck when the drive doesn't exist

Submitted by lwc on December 9, 2009 - 11:52am

Let's say I have some job that copies from, say, C to D. If D doesn't exist, instead of stopping it just keeps trying in vain. When you click cancel, it pauses (hey!) instead of cancelling. So one has to resort to killing the process from Task Manager.

It should stop trying if it sees there's no such drive (I assume it applies for both the source and the target).

Scripting with Sync commands yields errors (v2.2.1 )

Submitted by jstadolnik on December 8, 2009 - 1:34am

I have Script which looks like this:

Sync "SyncDocs"
Sync "SyncCode"

When executing the script from the GUI or command line the following error dialog appears (twice): "Error: Not all the require fields are filled".

Both sync commands works fine when run separately through the gui.

Thanks for the great program!

Issues with 2.2.1

Submitted by --Arcano-- on December 7, 2009 - 3:45pm

Hello Steve, a few issues I've encountered:

  1. In Sync mode, the progress window shows two errors for each file:
    • Failed to open for writing (error 5: access denied)
    • Failed to modify file times (error 5: access denied)

This happened with every file, both on a remote to local sync, and remote to remote; and no matter if the files had to be updated or not. (Obviously I do have access to those paths.)
