Run in Background or Pause Feature

Submitted by TwinDude on November 12, 2009 - 12:22pm

When Toucan runs it might as well put a lock on my hard drive. I have a laptop, so I only have a 5400rpm drive, but still. When Toucan runs I can do almost nothing; even web browsing slows down sometimes. In case it matters I have 4GB of RAM and a Core 2 Duo 2.5GHz processor, so I think the problem in this case is just the hdd. I'm requesting a run in background feature or a pause feature for when I need to load something up while doing a backup.

"Not all required fields are filled"

Submitted by Bindlestiff on November 10, 2009 - 10:56pm

First of all, nice program.

I have been able to do one way updates but in trying to sync with *equalise* selected, I get the progress bar box followed quickly with a pop-up which says "Not all required fields are filled". Job name, rules name, source, destination are all filled in. The preview function correctly identifies the changed files. When I try to run I get the nastygram. What else is there to fill in? I had the same problem on an XP machine as well as a Windows 7 machine.

Please help, upgraded to 2.2.0 from 2.1.0 and it crashes!

Hi,
I just upgraded from 2.1.0 to 2.2.0 and Toucan won't start anymore. It pops up an error saying "There was an error reading from the jobs file" and it crashes.
Please help, I didn't backup the previous application version, and I really need Toucan!
Do you have a link to download the 2.1.0 again?

Thank you Alex

Request for advice on suitability

Hi folks.
I googled 'free backup software review' and via I think 'geeksquad' saw high marks for Toucan but never found an actual review. Came to Toucan home page on portableapps, and did not see a full listing of the features I seek... only a ref to read the Manual if not answered here.... except cannot find the manual, looks like I would have to install Toucan before I can follow that.

Failed to encrypt (Toucan 2.2.0 & Toucan 2.1.2)

Submitted by Champ on November 5, 2009 - 10:20pm

G''day all,

This is my conundrum: I've encrypted a file (xls) with Toucan 2.2.0 via portableapps from one computer. Took the USB to another computer, decrypte , open and saved the file. And it wouldn't let me encrypt it back again. The "Setting up progress bar" just stays there forever (until I taskmgr-endprocess: ccrypt.exe).

Equalise does not work

Submitted by izzygalvez on November 5, 2009 - 12:44pm

I am using the latest version of Toucan (v2.2.0), and I am having problems syncing my USB thumb drive to a folder on my hard drive. I want to Equalise the two, but when I click "Run", I get the prompt "Not all required fields are filled", and the progress goes from "Starting" to "Elapsed" to "Finished" in about 1 second, while nothing gets synced.

Preview shows which files are going to be copied/updated, but Toucan does not do this task when I click "Run".

Compiling Toucan

Hello

Toucan Help says:

When getting the source for Toucan there are two main options, getting the very latest Toucan code or code from a specific release. As Toucan uses Mercurial to manage its source code you will need a copy. Then you can simply clone a copy of the repository which is available here:

Backup Error

Well done on such a great application!
I found posts stating there is an issue with incremental and differential backups with multiple directories selected. I have gotten the same error with a complete backup as well.

Toucan Zip archives in non-standard format?

Submitted by honstein on October 29, 2009 - 11:55am

Are the Zip files from Toucan and 7Zip non-standard, or for some other reason not compatible with the Windows implementation?

(In my case) the backups from Toucan generate an error using the Windows XP Explore Archive command, as well as with the excellent freeware app Filzip which I have been using for years.

However, a test with 7Zip did not generate any errors.

Thanks.

(Moved to its own topic, since earlier question got lost. And this may be a 7Zip question more than Toucan.)
