I have looked around the place and have found only one app that (poorly) does what I'm looking for.

The Kindle application is now available for the iPod, iPhone, PC and MAC. It would be fantastic to have it as a portable application so that one does not have to install it on all of their computers, laptops, etc.

Silverlight is widely used now ... Half of all PCs have SL installed

iFunBox.

iFunBox to run high-speed USB management of iPhone and iPod Touch to upload and remove movies and music without a "jailbreak". I use xVIS4PSP to make H264 and AAC movies and I use iTunes to make AAC music I transfer over to my iPod Touch.

Only the AppleMobileDeviceServices.exe has to be running in "services" for iFunBox to run.
