Utility Apps Support

Hi there!

I have currently installed 7-Zip portable on my HD (soon to be on my new Cruzer Titanium) and whenever I run 7-zipPortable.exe, 7-Zip starts, but always with the standard settings. I change something, i.e. the language, close 7-Zip, restart it and it has reverted to the original settings. Same for the columns, window position, etc.

I have 7-Zip installed on my computer as well, could that interfere? Or maybe there are certain files that might be write-protected?

Any help appreciated!

i checked the support page. portable works with 95 and 98 etc. but, does portable work with windows mobile 5.0 or windows ce (windows for portable) ? thanks (or can e-mail me at pnfx44a@aol.com)

whenever i try to install either the full portable apps suite or the lite version, the installation wizard gets to about 25% then an error message appear and says "the request could not be performed because of an 1/0 device error." i have tried installing them on both of my flash drives with no luck, but it will install onto my computer! i cant see any reason it will not work but it could be a fault at my end! any help would be appreciated!

What happened to 7za.exe? This is the commandline app with all the codecs integrated into the executable.

Was it removed for size reasons? It wasn't listed in the modification notes.

I run 7-zip 4.42 from my USB stick. When started on a computer without admin rights, I get an errormsg that writing to the registry is not allowed. Doesn't really bother me as it works just fine afterwards - but could it be avoided somehow?

However what bothers me a bit are the non-persistent settings. In particular language - I'd like to use it in English all the time, but it keeps switching to the computer's default language after every new start.

Hate to sound like a noob, but I'm afraid that in this case that's exactly what I am.

The admins @ school blocked 7 zip as it allowed access to shares to which pupils should not be able to access. However, i use 7ZIP to copy files over to my workspace and my USB drive. I need to be able to use it again. I have the source of it but it is in C++ and i only know Visual Basic and KiXscripting. How do I change all the texts 7ZIP to something else?

Asking the technicians to unblobk it is not an option as I had the software blocked in the first place (in a way).

Background: TrueCrypt requires admin privileges on the host machine, even in Traveler mode. Some slick program I assembled using GPG and 7za does not seem to work for me anymore, and I cannot figure out why. So that leaves me, I think, with 7-Zip's encryption feature if I want to protect files on my USB and to use them in Windows machines with limited user privileges. Besides, 7-Zip is on my USB, so I may as well not load another program if it's not necessary.
