Miranda 0.5 has been released.

With the 0.5 release, Miranda IM introduces Unicode support, to further improve integration into multi-language systems. Available now are 2 separate download options. The Unicode version is available for Windows NT, 2000, and XP users and a non-Unicode version is available for Windows 9x and ME users. Another new feature of this release is the introduction of AIM Oscar. This provides users with the ability to transfer files and receive away messages that previous versions did not support. This release also increases the support for avatars among many of the protocols. Along with plenty of bug fixes and new features, we hope you will find Miranda IM 0.5 a satisfying release.

Pidgin: Away status

Submitted by phlegmer on July 13, 2006 - 12:52pm

I'm kinda new to Gaim and just have a quick question. Where does it show the current away status that I'm using? I see the away button and can select the various status's. But there isn't a check mark or anything that tells me what is currently set.

Thanks all!

Portable Miranda aging out / ICQ-connection problems workaround

Submitted by ChainGuy on July 12, 2006 - 6:03am

People like me, just loving the uncomplicated way of using your apps wherever you want, and so using Portable Miranda, will actually face a major problem, connecting to the ICQ Network.

The package downloadable here, still contains the old ICQ.dll OscarJ-protocol in version 0.3.5.3. For ICQ having changed their servers on 10th of July, the old protocol is no longer accepted.

Joe@Whale, writer of the OscarJ-protocol says:
"Hi,
I noticed AOL is about to discontinue support for icq5... together with old error in 0.3.5.3 version it is not able to connect... I release new bugfix version 0.3.5.4 - it has fixed this problem and is still based on old code base. ALSO PLEASE NOTE: Development builds has this fixed for some time already."

Pidgin: Portable Gaim for linux

Submitted by Psykomander on July 3, 2006 - 3:50pm

I read something about a version of the portable Gaim which is usable under Linux.

Is there somebody who knows something about this version?
Knows somebodey where i can get it?

The problem is:
A friend is abroad because his Job took him there and there are linux-pc's and no windows-pc's.
He isnt allowed to install any program.

At home (in germany) he uses the "normal" Gaim and so it i thought it would be the best for him to use a portable version of it ^^

Thanks for your answers and greetz

Pidgin: Split directories and PortableGAIM/GiMP

Submitted by pfeerick on June 24, 2006 - 2:43am

I had problems with the PortableGaim and PortableGiMP when trying to implement the "split directory" functionality of the portable launchers, with the launcher displaying a message reporting " was not found. Please check your configuration". This error did not occur when I simply unpacked the zip file from portableapps.com and ran it from there. After closer scrutiny, I located a line missing from the CheckPortableAppsSplitDIR section of the launcher. John checked for the existance of the executable, and set the path if the executable was found, but check for or set the path of the settings folder. Instead, the check for the GTK is there.

Pidgin: Skype?

Submitted by Jon_boy1984 on June 22, 2006 - 8:20pm

I know this should probably be on the Gaim site, but we use skype for work purposes. (when there is no mobile coverage) and was wondering if there was any plans to put skype into the program?!

Many Thanks,

Jon
