Pidgin: Portable Gaim HKCU Startup Error

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on March 27, 2006 - 12:03am

Running Windows 2k Pro with Portable Gaim. I've set the
portablegaim.exe file to run at current user startup
(HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run). I
recieve an error labeled "settings was not found.
Please check your configuration." However, if I run
PortableGaim again, it loads sucessful. It also works
if I link it to another link to portablegaim; *.ink.

Portable FileZilla (PFZ) locks up when in configuration menu?

Submitted by stacoma on March 25, 2006 - 4:37pm

I just installed this recently and found that when you do anything in the configuration menu and then click OK, my thumbdrive light seems to blink in a pattern like it's in some sort of loop and I often have to do CTRL-ALT-DEL to close the frozen program. However, if delete the xml file for the settings, restart "PFZ" and then tell it to save the settings to the registry instead, the above actions will not cause any problems. I have since removed the regisry key and told "PFZ" to save the settings locally (the xml file) and the problem is back.

Has anyone seen this kind of behavior? It's happening on both of my computers when I plug the thumbdrive in and try to run "PFZ." Is it an XML issue?

Pidgin: 1.5 Guifications Plugin

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on March 16, 2006 - 9:13pm

Out of frustration, I've created a small package that includes the Guifications plugin for Portable Gaim 1.5 -- it's available here, and the MD5 checksum is: 90666fbd3fc169a236661c13f28f71d7

Simply extract the contents of this 7-Zip archive on top of the existing directories underneath ./gaim. You can grab additional Guifications themes here.

Pidgin: portable gaim crashes after splash screen

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on March 16, 2006 - 12:34pm

I'm having a problem with portable gaim crashing on my home PC (running Win XP home edition). The splash screen is displayed, I get an hourglass and then nothing happens. I've tried downloading a fresh zip and installing it, and it doesn't seem to work. I had no problem with it until last night. I had regular gaim installed on the same machine as well, and now that won't start, either. I've tried removing GTK and completely reinstalling. Any ideas what's going on?
