but using the exact same details on Windows Live/meebo.com allows me to log in.

Unsure if this is issue related to portable version but there's no ticket regarding this issue on Pidgin support page

When I right-click on individual Yahoo users in my Buddy List, the only "Presence Settings" item available is "Appear Permanently Offline". In GAIM it gave me 2 others; "Appear Online" and "Don't Appear Permanently Offline". I've experienced this glitch in both the Pidgin full *and* portable versions. Other than that, Pidgin seems to work pretty much the same as GAIM did. Can anyone offer some insight into this strange situation?

I'm trying to use PidginPortable (from now on "PP") at work to get on the MSN IM network. I know this is possible because Windows Messenger works fine on the work machines, and also I've gotten TrillianAnywhere configured and working too.

I have Pidgin Portable 2.1.1, clean install. When i login to Pidgin its all fine, connections good, messaging is ok. If i full screen Pidgin and minimize it, the window loads back up as it was minimized, but if i close pidgin (X, not right click and Quit), and open it from the tray, pidgin is really small. just thought this was worth mentioning.

is there a "msn now playing" plugin for pidgin? i couldn't find where is it ?

Is anybody having problems sending messages using MSN http method or standard?

I always get:
"Message could not be sent because a connection error occurred:"

At home with AdiumX it works, just not with Pidgin. Yahoo and other protocols work fine.

I did a clean-install just to see if that made any difference but no luck.

Any ideas?

If anyone can offer a suggestion I would appreciate it. Every time I try to start PidginPortable I get a Visual C++ runtime error indicating "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way"

If I try to start pidgin.exe from the \App\pidgin directory it fusses about not finding intl.dll and then Pidgin.dll

Any ideas? I will be most appreciative.

I am guessing I get this error due to being behind a firewall at my work. Well you can solve this IF the following conditions apply (the way I do it)
1. you have an ssh server running at home
2. have a port at home that is open for outgoing traffic (i think, I am sorry but I don't totally understand how tunneling with putty works. All I know is that the only port open for incoming traffic at my house is for ssh)

Upon PidginPortable install, it seemed to have automatically migrated my previous GAIMPortable profile settings over just fine. But, I typically use the Yahoo protocol the majority of the time, and I was very disappointed in the default Pidgin smiley/emote theme. And I'd become quite accustomed to the original default smileys/emotes from GAIM, which were a copy of the same default sets from the individual branded messenger programs.

Hi all,

I used pidgin beta before, which had the buddy icon in conversation on the left of the typing field. Now it is (very small) in the upper right corner of my conversation window. I was wondering if this is due to a change in pidgin itself, or is it something I can modify?
