ClamWin: Please help

Submitted by ashgo_84 on July 6, 2008 - 4:11am

Hi,

I installed ClamWin Portable on my Transcend Flashget pen drive from windows XP. Now when i use it on my other computer which has windows 98 installed (and no antivirus) the application from the pen drive does not run. And thus my pen drive gets infected with some unwanted .exe files. What should I do to make CalmWin run from my pen drive on windows 98?

Please help.

ClamWin: Size of the main.cld file

Submitted by tremblsi on June 26, 2008 - 11:58am

I don't think this is a bug, certainly not a ClamWin portable one, but I thought I'd point it out anyway.

I'm using an old 64 Mb USB drive (I know, I know, but I never throw out anything) with just ClamWin Portable on it, no PortableApps menu. When I updated to 0.93.1, I noticed that the installed folder was using ~45 Mb on the stick, ~32 Mb of it being the main.cld file.

Do ClamWin conflict with avast! 4.8 and so on ...

Submitted by Curious on June 24, 2008 - 8:03am

Hey I have not tried ClamWin yet.

Have avast! 4.8 on my PC (not on portable)

Do ClamWin conflict with avast!4.8?

... Normal it is not good to have two anti-virus programs ...

Well. I guess ClamWin only is needed on those PCs, who not already have an anti-virus programme... Or ??!!

Tell me about it.

ClamWin: Automatic Scan of FFP downloads with CWP

There is an interesting discussion going on in the FFP forum about using a FF Add-On called "Download Statusbar" to automatically invoke CWP to scan files downloaded by FFP.

I post this for the benefit of those who might not use the tracker or visit the FFP forum often.

Discussions of this subject should be carried on there at the topic linked to above.

ClamWin outdated

FWIW The current Portable ClamWin download no longer supports virus database updates. According to the update's error msg it's too old.

Reading CVD header (main.cvd): Ignoring mirror 199.184.215.2 (too often connections with outdated version)
WARNING: Can't read main.cvd header from database.clamav.net (IP: )

ClamWin: Does this look like a False Positive (FileZilla)?

Submitted by joesmith07 on June 6, 2008 - 1:38pm

I just updated my ClamWin and scanned my thumb drive and it found two Trojan's, both of which are in my PortableApps folder. The first "Trojan" found, is probably a false positive (I bet ClamWin doesn't recognize my Nintendo emulator). However, the second one is linked to my FileZilla and it concerns me.

Here's the report:

Scan Started Fri Jun 06 13:12:44 2008
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G:\PortableApps\Nintendo.win\Nintendo.exe: Trojan.Dropper-6687 FOUND
G:\PortableApps\FileZillaPortable\FileZillaPortable.exe: Trojan.VB-2953 FOUND
