Unable to Download updated ClamWin

Submitted by jakewc2 on January 19, 2008 - 6:26am

I bought a 4gig usb stick yesterday, and downloaded the Suite onto it. When I went in to check the ClamWin program it gave all these errors saying that it was out of date. I found the updated version, from the url it gave, and tried to install the updated version, but for some reason, it wont install to the usb, it installs it on the pc instead. i have directed the installation to the usb, and the right folder, but it ends up installing it on the pc instead. Can somebody help? Its getting really frustrating.

Thanks.

John.

ClamWin: Botched up install of new version

Submitted by jim simon on January 18, 2008 - 8:14pm

I downloaded PortableApps suite and installed in my USB stick. All worked well. I then decided to download the latest version 0.91.2.0 of ClamWin Antivirus from Sourceforge.com. I downloaded it to my desktop. Then I rightclicked and “Sent to” my USB stick, G:\PortableApps\ClamWinPortable folder. I then navigated to that folder and deleted my old “ClamWinPortable.exe” file, leaving the “App”, “Data”, and “Other” folders and a “help.html” file. I opened the new downloaded ClamWin setup file and it immediately produced a new folder entitled “ClamWin”.

ClamWin doesn't start

Hi,

I have a slight problem. I have installed on a flash disk the latest version of ClamWin portable and when I try to start the application (no matter if it is through the PortableApps Menu or Explorer) the antivirus shows the splash screen and immediately closes.

KeePass: [v1.10] Launch URLs in Firefox Portable

Submitted by mjcarman on January 14, 2008 - 9:44am

John hasn't updated to v1.10 yet, but it has a new feature which is nice for portable app users. Called "Placeholders" you can override the default browser used for URLs in two ways.

On a per-entry basis by modifying the URL:

cmd://{FIREFOX} "http://foo.bar.baz"

As a global override by adding this line to your KeePass.ini:

KeeUrlOverride=cmd://{FIREFOX} "{URL}"

ClamWin: Automatic update widget updated

Submitted by MKonar on December 29, 2007 - 11:33am

I have released an update to my automatic virus definitions updater for ClamWin Portable. New in v0.3.2 of ClamWinPortableDBUpdate is a custom popup notifier (no more Windows balloons!) as well as some behavioral improvements.

You can get all the details at http://clamup.co.nr/. It may take a while for co.nr's cache to reflect the latest uploads; if you don't see v0.3.2, then I suggest you try my direct link: http://mkonar.selfip.com/clam/.

ClamWin: Bug in ClamAV

Tim Clark's picture
Submitted by Tim Clark on December 20, 2007 - 4:49pm

There is a security vulnerability in ClamAV .091.2 [the underling program for ClamWin {the underling program for ClamWinPortable}]

It is discussed here:
http://labs.idefense.com/intelligence/vulnerabilities/display.php?id=634

As a workaround while we await ClamWin .092 [and then ClamWinP .092] the following is suggested,

"V. WORKAROUND
Disabling the scanning of PE files will prevent exploitation. If using clamscan, this can be done by running clamscan with the '--no-pe' option. If using clamdscan, set the 'ScanPE' option in the clamd.conf file to 'no'. "

Command Line only ClamWin Portable?

Submitted by Schadenfroh on December 20, 2007 - 3:21pm

Hey, I am trying to minimize the size of clamwin portable and operate it with a .cmd script file (located on a USB flash drive)

Is there a compilation of ClamWin Portable without GUIs that iscommand line driven only?

I tried just using command line arguments, but I get errors when trying to update using freshclam "cannot parse config file .\clamd.conf", any thoughts on how to update using the command line in ClamWin Portable?

I can scan using:

KeePass: Is it safe to carry around?

Submitted by Mover on December 18, 2007 - 9:58am

Hi,

As many of you guys and girls I carry around my usb disk with keepass and a file with some sensitive info on it.

However, I was realizing the other day that is not the best thing to do.

KP is open source so everybody can compile a new -and adapted- version of KP. They could modify it to store or send passwords. So, imagine this scenario:

-I'm at work but dying for some coffee. So, I lock my pc and go to the coffee machine.
-A sneaky person takes out my usb disk and copies his (her?) ADAPTED version of KP onto it.
-He (she) replaces the disk

ClamWin: Can't uninstall? Help please...

Submitted by tomudei on December 3, 2007 - 5:15pm

When trying to delete Clamwin folder I get an error stating:

Cannot delete ExpShell: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

The file is not in use, the disk is not full. Any suggestions on how to delete would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
