Network portability of ClamWin Portable

Submitted by lwc on May 20, 2008 - 11:28am

When I try to launch ClamWinPortable.exe via \\another-computer, it says I need to configure the settings (if I do so, it saves them in the local %APPDATA% under ".clamwin").

When I copy over to the local computer ClamWinPortable.exe, and create ClamWinPortable.ini with \\ paths, when launching that ClamWinPortable.exe I get an error telling me to re-install.

ClamWin: OnLine ClamAV Change

Tim Clark's picture
Submitted by Tim Clark on April 26, 2008 - 3:11pm

I just wanted to note that ClamAV seems to have changed it's policy on it's online scans through Jotti
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

and VirusTotal
http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexx.html

In the past the online versions were set to Advanced, find Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUA).

It currently "seems" to NOT be doing this.
I detected 3 False Positives the other day (2 in C:\i386 !!!)
I reported them to Clam today and decided to upload to our 2 standard testing sites to see how long before they were updated.
They were not detected.

Trouble switching clamwin between write-protected and open modes...

Submitted by Driftless on April 26, 2008 - 11:36am

Greetings, I am setting up Clamwin to incorporate a pre-scan in my work-flow. I have a write-protection lock on my USB (using a SD card with hardware write-protection). Heres the thought:

1) Plug in the locked device
2) Run clamwin to scan the programs in memory
3) Asses risk and walk away, or
4) Unplug, unlock, unencrypt, and go about my business.

So, I need Clamwin to work in both modes (write protected, and open) so that I can keep DB up to date, etc.

[false alarm] Clamwin portable 0.93 suspected as virus

Submitted by zooz on April 22, 2008 - 8:45am

I have a weird thing with the file ClamWin_Portable_0.93.paf.exe.

Every time I execute it my real time antivirus (ca's etrust 7.1) yells at me that there is a virus at:

c:\documents and settings\[myusename]\local settings\temp\ns[changing number sequence]\system.dll

When I scan (with ca etrust antivirus) the clamwin_portable_0.93.paf.exe file it doesn't detect anything.
