VLC: No sound

Submitted by EMCodd on January 10, 2007 - 4:12pm

I just downloaded VLC Portable and tried to run both a movie and music on it (not at the same time!), but can't get sound on either. The picture is great, but no sound. I have it loaded on a Seagate 100GB portable hard drive, and have it plugged into an HP Pavillion zd7000 laptop in an HP docking station. The sound card works fine, because I can get sound directly from the computer. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Audacity: LAME MP3

Portable Apps is making its name as something thats easy to install and so on and that regular computer users can use it.

But the lack of Lame MP3 support confuses many people and they dont understand all that 'dll' and 'tar.gz' lingo. so i would recommend adding lame mp3 support by default because the majority of people will probably export to mp3, especially if its a portable app.

filename character bug fixed in vlc-0.8.6-rc1-20061205-0330-win32

Just a heads up that a long-standing bug with UNC filenames has been fixed in official videolan 0.8.6 RC1 nightly build http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win32/branch-20061205-0330/vlc-0.8.6...

Playing files/playlists with accents/umlauts/japanese characters, etc. in the filename was previously impossible.
