Ffx leaves files on pc when set as default browser

Submitted by sl23 on March 5, 2012 - 10:42am

Both Ffx and Tbird leave files on the pc if used as default browser/mail app. I want them kept as default but wondered why they create these files and leave them in the system.

Is it a Mozilla problem/function/issue?

Will this be sorted when file associations are added to the menu?

Its not really a problem its just annoying because I imagine due to these files being left it causes a default Ffx/Tb settings to be loaded if the apps aren't running and I open a html file/link or create new email.

I always have to start the app then open link for browser/email.

Moving after formatting causes problems

Hey,

I have been using FF Portable for years, really. I find it cool, until yesterday.

I run a quick format of my disk every, lets say, 6 months. Everytime I just copy FirefoxPortable folder, and everything works fine.

Not this time. I have installed flash, java, silverlight and firefox does not 'operate' on some sites. For instance it looks like that on most forums:

P.S: That do not always happens, there must be some program which "offers" this installation for the Firefox.

FF doesn't open tabs from last session

Submitted by steacha on February 21, 2012 - 8:06pm

My USB stick kinda crashed recently so I decided that I would install FF portable on my C drive. However, I noticed that even I have it set yo re-open the tabs I was viewing in my last browsing session,FF opens a blank page.

I even went and installed Session Manager just to be sure, but the same things happens: my tabs do not get re-opened. The ONLY way I see it re-open the tabs is say I install a new extension and then click on the restart link that shows up in the Add-On manager.

So, any clue of what could be going wrong?

Bug in Portable FF with some extensions

Submitted by GoD on February 20, 2012 - 6:05am

With a normal installation, everything is ok.
Only the portable ff versions exhibit this behavior.

Make a clean installation and change two parameters.
a) Restore tabs from the last session
b) Don't load tabs until selected

Install the CopyAllUrls extension.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/copyallurls/

Change the option and add title before URL.

Now open some different sites and restart FF.

Click on Edit -> Copy All Urls -> Copy
and paste the result in an editor window.

Result with normal installation

Title Tab1
Url Tab1

Title Tab2
Url Tab2

Why so may major releases of Firefox.

Submitted by tanker on February 16, 2012 - 8:39am

Ok... I got to ask. The curiosity is killing me Pardon What is the deal with all the major releases of Firefox (or Thunderbird for that matter). Anyone know?

I think it started with 7.0 then 7.0.1, 8.0 the 8.0.1, same pattern on up to 10.0.1. There doesn't seem to be that many changes (that I can see) between the releases that would justify a major release.

I thought this would be as good a place as any to ask with out having to register on yet another site.

Multiple copies not working properly

Submitted by Frank1 on February 15, 2012 - 6:06pm

I have 2 computers and work on one during the day and the other during the evening. I want to continue working in the evening where I left off during the day. To do this I have FFP and TBP installed on both computers and a flash drive. Before leaving the day computer I synchronize with the flash drive with the computer being the source. When I get to my evening computer I synchronize that computer with the flash drive with the flash drive as the source. This way the 3 copies are the the same.

exiting Firefox doesn't shut it down

Submitted by pwright2 on February 14, 2012 - 10:05pm

I'm running Firefox 10.0.1 under Win7, but the problem isn't really new. I find that after running Firefox over a day and opening and closing many tabs my whole machine slows down drastically. Killing firefox and restarting fixes that. My annoyance is that exiting Firefox very rarely kills it.

Exit Firefox. Wait a minute or so. Start Task Manager. There you see Firefoxportable.exe and firefox.exe still running. Note that CPU usage is still high. Use Task Manager to kill them. CPU usage drops dramatically. Restart Firefox and all is well.

Installer says it has to close when I try to install

Submitted by Bryllars on February 12, 2012 - 1:57am

I use 9.0.1 successfully
But when I go to install 10.0.1
- and I have downloaded it three times
to be sure there was no download error.
- it always says it has to close
as soon as I try to open it.

I have done this when not running Firefox and when running it.

Don't know what to do.
