Mouse Performance...

Submitted by kjp on May 4, 2006 - 3:58pm

Can you suggest a way to improve mouse performance in pff? I'm operating pff from a portable USB 2.0 hard drive (seagate 6G pocket drive). The mouse is jerky while web pages actively load but smooths out when completely loaded. I've also noticed occasional lags while typing. Otherwise, pff is working brilliantly. I'm assuming this a data transfer issue. Is this to be expected or can improvements be made? kjp

Old setup of PFF

I need PFF 1.5.0.2 with old directory structure. I made the stupid mistake of auto-updating Fx with extensions pending (downloaded but installed with a restart)
I copied my profile and userprofile folders to the new 1.5.0.3, but only a few extensions show, and they will not install.
I can then copy my profile stuff to the old dir structure and autoupdate to 1.5.0.3.

PortableFirefox in WinPE

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on May 4, 2006 - 8:57am

Hi Folks!

First post so be gentle!!!

I'm attempting to embed PFF into a WinPE build. I've downloaded the 1.5.0.3 release and extracted it into my WinPE image.

I boot my WinPE system, xcopy the extracted folders into a ram disk and run portablefirefox.exe from there. I do this 'cos I assume some folders need to be writable.

However, nothing happens - no firefox splash page, zilch.

Is there anything I need to add to the PFF install (e.g. DLL's etc.) to get this to work ?

Thanks in advance

Modify 'Upgrade Firefox' help text to stress the importance of folder mapping

Please consider making upgrade help text a little more clearer about exactly where to place profile settings if the folder location is changing. I took me about 20 minutes to figure out why my upgrade didn't take and where to put all of the necessary files after about 3 re-reads of the instructions to see the new folder scheme.

Thanks! 8)

1.5.0.2 creating directories

Submitted by krisdb on May 2, 2006 - 4:49pm

I've just upgraded to PFF 1.5.0.2 and when I start it up, new directories are being created in the 'PortableFirefox' directory on my usb key. They look like the directories under my personal Documents and Settings directory on my computer (ie, Desktop, Favorites, Cookies, etc.). Its causing a problem because I download everything to my computer's Desktop and everything is being downloaded to the Desktop directory on my usb key.

The readme file says, "The AppDataDirectory and UserProfileDirectory are used instead of the local User and Application Data directories contained in Documents and Settings.

installing extensions

Hi,

I've put PortabelFirefox on my USB stick and would like to install extensions on it. The problem is that the extension says that it will be isntalled when I restart PortabelFirefox but I have restarted it several times now, whereas the message still appears in the extensions menu. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance

Downloading anything in PFox results in Error/ Shut Down

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on May 1, 2006 - 5:31pm

So here's the thing,
Recently, using PortableFirefox to browse and save anything to my hard drive results in an error, and the program shuts down.

eg: I right click a pic on the web and hit save as and then i say where, then it errors and shuts down. I had to use another browser to d/l the PFox update.

It only started doing this last night, so I upgraded to 1.5.02 and it's still not working. I've tried a couple different computers, but to no avail.

I use a portable Firelite harddrive and my school's computers (laptop recently fried, so all my computing is done in the library). I don't think it's the hard drive's fault. I copied the PortableFirefox folder onto the computer's drive, and it still errored. And I don't want to erase my (40 gigs of) files, to see if it fixes it.
