FF 3.0.5 Malware Database size?

Tim Clark's picture
Submitted by Tim Clark on December 27, 2008 - 6:33pm

I'm thinking something may have changed since the first releases of FF3

Early reports were that the Malware Database was about 52MB fairly consistently.

In my using of FFP3.0.5 I am seeing , and others are reporting, much less. About 17-18 MB when both "attack sites" and "forgery" are selected .

tool->options->security 2nd and 3rd check boxes

Could folks who have those setting on give some feed back.
Something may have changed, and if so we should know.
It would be good news if they have found a way to make it smaller

PFF 3.1 Beta 2 - Stops Downloading After Crash

Submitted by EwanG on December 25, 2008 - 5:00pm

Possibly the weirdest error I've ever seen. I was closing PFF 3.1 beta 2 last night, and it crashed upon closing for no discernible reason. Since that crash, however, whenever I try to download something, I get an error that it can't find the "part" file in the Temp directory on my local hard drive. I cleaned that out just in case, but that didn't fix anything. In fact, I was surprised to see it was trying to use my local harddrive.

Any thoughts on fixes short of uninstall and reinstall? Known bug?

How to create a second profile in portable firefox?

Submitted by SJK71 on December 24, 2008 - 10:29am

Hi there!
I would like to use at portable firefox the profile of my "normal" firefox I use on my PC and backed up there with the add-on FEBE. To restore it with FEBE in portable firefox I have to create a second profile. I tried it with the profile manager using the "run-application" of my WinXP (firefox.exe -profilemanager), but I could not "reach" the portable firefox this way to create a second profile there.
How does it work?

(I hope I have expressed my problem in an understandable way, as I'm not a native english speaker...)

Thanks so far!

FFP 305 - Personal prefs as default prefs

portable_sunray's picture
Submitted by portable_sunray on December 22, 2008 - 6:26am

Normally I open FFP 305 by clicking on the start icon and enjoy my own settings.

Sometimes I open FFP lazily by clicking on a HTML file and get the FFP with the default settings (not bad either, but...).

Is there a way to define my personal settings as default settings?

PS: I hope it is not a RTFM Q. I tried to find a solution by looking through the available infos. Meanwhile I understand how to create different profiles. Just copying the files into the default folder wouldn't work.

Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition 3.1 Beta 2 "Test" suffix problem

Submitted by rickycheng on December 22, 2008 - 4:50am

As written in Mozilla Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 homepage
Install Note: The 3.1 Beta 2 release will install alongside a Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition installation by default and show up in your PortableApps.com Menu with a "Test" suffix. The installer supports upgrading existing 3.0 installations by manually changing the install location as well.

But the "Test" suffix didn't shown in the PortableApps.com Menu ..Just show Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition ...

I need to put the mouse on the menu and see the folder location to identity which one is 3.1 and 3.0

Some websites use FF2.0.0.20 profile, for 3.0.5

Submitted by ralston on December 20, 2008 - 2:38pm

My situation is pretty unusual. The Flash drive is doing ok, but I like so much FF portable that I have FF3.0.5 installed on my hard drive, and made it default. FF3.1 beta2 coexists, beautifully, with 3.0.5, but there are problems, with two websites, so far, who open/use 3.0.5, but with the profile of 2.0.0.20, which is not portable. Aside for the unusual mix, should I go portable all the way, and do away with the conventional 2.0.0.20.

Firefox version detection

Submitted by YNT on December 20, 2008 - 1:45am

Hi! I noticed that my FF Portable version is not the same with info in About... section. I have in About:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; ru-RU; rv:1.9.0.4) Gecko/2008102920 Firefox/2.0.0.14
But version is just installed 3.0.5 and it is update from 3.0.4.

Thanks for attention,

FF Portable 2.0.0.20 Problems with Google

Submitted by mvalhara on December 19, 2008 - 3:25pm

I have FF Portable 3, which is working fine, as well as a standard Windows installation, also working fine.

However, I have strange problems with FF 2.0.0.2--

In the Google search bar in the upper right-hand corner of the browser, the automatic search suggestions no longer work.

When I try to access my Gmail, I get the message "This is taking longer than usual. Try reloading the page," and it never loads up.

Most frustratingly, when I visit a page with a Google ad, the entire browser freezes up and I have to close it with ctrl+alt+del.
