Slow Bookmark updates

Submitted by cluesch on June 14, 2007 - 6:56am

Hello there,
as it has been noted on https://portableapps.com/node/2118 already, bookmark updates are somewhat... well a dead turtle is slow, but taking 70 seconds to write a 350 kB bookmarks file is not just slow, it is excruciating; never been so close to punch my laptop before.

And everytime you do something in the Bookmark Manager, even if you just try to drag a folder somewhere else (but fail), you will have to wait for over a minute.

Splashscreen (FirefoxPortable.jpg) ...

... shows the string "Firefox., Portable Edition"
(similar in the Thunderbird RC)

Could this be a fault?

Because in German a dot followed by a comma is a fault.

The old FirefoxPortable.jpg shows
"Firefox.-Portable Edition"
this was better but without the dot it will be the perfect solution!

"Firefox - Portable Edition"

If the string is a consequence of the license agreement with Mozilla and not a fault please let me know.

Marko

Firefox Portable + javascript enabled = weird Digg problem

Submitted by andersonmanly on June 13, 2007 - 10:34pm

I have been experiencing some problems lately with Firefox portable while visiting Digg.com. I've narrowed the problem down to javascript being enabled or disabled. When it's disabled, Digg works just fine. When javascript is enabled, with all sub-options unchecked, and I click on a story, a new tab will open up, but the article that I was trying to read doesn't come up. Instead, I get the Digg "Opps, the page you are trying to find cannot be found" page. The weird thing is that in the address bar, the URL of the website that I was trying to go to is there. Anyone else had this problem?

How can I add "Full Screen" to rightclick context menu?

Submitted by HiFlight on June 12, 2007 - 7:51pm

I would like to add the Full Screen command to my right click context menu to avoid having to reach for the F11 key, as the menu bar containing "View" is not visible when in fullscreen mode.

On previous editions of Firebird, it was located in the right click menu, but I can't remember if it was there by default or if I somehow installed it there.

Any suggestions welcome. I am running Firefox portable v2.0.0.4

TIA

Ron

Burn to a CD? get error message

Submitted by Klaatu7177 on June 12, 2007 - 2:43pm

Ok, I know this is a dumb question but all I want to do is burn my web site to a CD and have it open in ANY browser without displaying the "active X" warning (like on Internet explorer.)

So I did the portable firefox thing worked GREAT when running from my computer but when I put it on a CD I get the error message "It appears that you are running firefox from a read only source etc" and won't open from a CD
1) Is there a workaround for this?
2) Does anyone know ANYWAY to be able to open a web site from a CD without getting the active x warning?

Painful Popup

I'm wondering why the Portable Apps dialog box doesn't come up when the downloads window is open because it's annoying me that it takes focus from the address bar in the same way that the google default web page does but in an even more annoying fashion will I say.

Possible bug in Portable Firefox 2.0.0.4 concerning links in RSS feeds

Submitted by andrewm288 on June 11, 2007 - 1:02pm

I download podcasts from the BBC website by going to the RSS feed and clicking "Save Link As...". After I recently upgraded from Portable Firefox 2.0.0.3 to 2.0.0.4, I noticed that I was no longer able to do this as the entries no longer showed up as links in the RSS feed. I downloaded fresh copies of Portable Firefox 2.0.0.3 and 2.0.0.4 and installed them on a spare USB drive, and the links worked fine in 2.0.0.3 but not in 2.0.0.4.

Cache not working at full capacity

Submitted by fred65 on June 10, 2007 - 12:59am

Yet another cache problem/enquiry.

It may not be specific to PORTABLE Firefox, but I've got my cache set to 1000MB. Many pages that I visit regularly don't seem to be taking advantage of the cache. Some sites are fine, but others constantly reload the same images etc.

With my cache set to 1GB, it's clear that I don't care how much it caches (I prefer the faster cached browsing). I've checked the cache folder several times and it's normally less than 30MB of cached data.
