Thunderbird Portable

Terribly slow startup and cannot connect to mail account

Submitted by calle2005 on September 9, 2010 - 9:09pm

Friends

I have a strange problem on two computers when using TB Portable (latest version, 3).

Here are the details:

Vista (one is 32 bit business and one 64 bit business)
Thumbdrive Kingston Datatraveler 1 G and 8 G (behavior same on both)
On a local network with a domain server and a 2 MB broadband subscription
Running inside a Truecrypt file container (2 G and 300 MB)
The computers are both fairly new and powerful.

Address Book Cannot Be Accessed

I can no longer directly access my main address book which is located in abook.mab via Tools/Address Book. The only address book available via Tools/Address Book is Personal Address Book with 32 entries -- but not abook.mab which has 107 KB of addresses. I can Angel see abook.mab using Explorer in the proper directory; and (b) when typing in email addresses the auto-complete function is accessing data from that file.

Links in Links menu stopped working

I have TB portable 3.1.2 -- after upgrading from the previous version, the links in the Add-Ons menu for Get More Extensions, Get More Themes, MozillaZine, MozDev no longer do anything. I tried downloading and running a fresh copy of the installer just in case the original was damaged but it didn't make any difference.

I'd like to get more add-ons and maybe one or two different themes, but the only way to do that now is via Firefox. Not a big deal, but slightly less convenient.

USB getting MANY "bad" file structure errors on W7x64 using PortableApps and Thunderbird

Submitted by RussB on August 16, 2010 - 9:40pm

I am getting too many file errors on my USB thumbdrive when accessing T'bird Portable on my Win7 64bit machine.
* I always use "Safely Remove Hardware"
* There are almost always 1 or 2 file errors after dismount.
* File errors are mostly in the Address book, but not always.
* The last one wiped the profile and even restoring the "Data" directory did not get it back, I needed to re-install T'bird Portable.
* USB Drive is Kingston 32 Gig with FAT32 file system.
* Running the same USB on WinXP 32bit works just fine, never any file problems.
