Start TB offline from command-line?

Submitted by Burma on July 6, 2010 - 12:23pm

Here's my scenario: sometimes TB (2.0.0.24) hangs or crashes, usually because of a nasty piece of e-mail that it chokes on, or an attachment that is over-large. At such times I log on to Web-mail and kill the offending crap. I would also like to be able to start TB offline - anyone know of a way? I tried the command-line switch "-offline" which I read about somewhere but it did not work. Thanks

TB3 from TB2

Update to version 3
I use the portable thunderbird version 2
I had many problems updating to version 3
I'm still in version 2 with minor problems.
How can I update to version 3 without problems ?

Ideas

1) Install portable version 3 in parallel.

Is possible to move or export the actual profile to the new version ?
Is possible to move by parts ?
How can I copy the accounts or any other details ?

What are the files I have to look for ?

Best Regards

Problem with enigmail

Submitted by LeJav on July 2, 2010 - 9:23am

Hi,
It seems there is a bug with enigmail.
I have a path for portable TB like: D:\nxxxxx\....
According to my understanding, when portable TB starts, portable GPG sets the correct path in prefs.js for gpg.exe. But the path is not correct: it is something like D:\name\\.... There is only one \ after the D:. In the case of \n, it is interpreted as a CR by TB and gpg is not found. If I have another letter instead of n, it works well.

I have solved the problem by modifying ThunderbirdPortable.nsi line 384 by replacing:

message pane

When I start TB 3.x and do not select a message I get a start page (Welcome to Thunderbird....).
Is the a way for TB to show me the last message I read when I open it?
Thanks a lot for helping!

Question on Thunderbird2ndProfile, location of profile

Submitted by HarryR on June 25, 2010 - 7:07am

As part of a big exercise in trying to figure out a totally portable installation that can also be used on my local hard drive, I am trying to get TBird and FFox to use profiles in a different branch of the directory tree. So, for example :

Program is in C:\My\Apps\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\
Data is in C:\My\Docs\Current\Thunderbird\

The _relative_ position of these folders will always be the same.

Is it possible to use Thunderbird2ndProfile to make ThunderbirdPortable look for its profile in somewhere like ..\..\..\Docs\Current\Thunderbird ?

Recover Deleted Emails

Submitted by deus.nz on June 24, 2010 - 5:22pm

I have come across several articles on how I can recover deleted emails however none of them seem to work seeing that the INBOX file does not appear to be that large and none of the emails are in the INBOX file i.e. none even those I have not deleted. I am using IMAP to access my emails and am in an urgent need to retrieve the emails I had deleted.

why so huge?

Hello, I recently switched vom TB 2.x to 3.0x.

I use IMAP, the inbox-file in TB 2 was approx. 1. mb big, the new one is over 50 mb.

How do I undo the change?

Thanks a lot for your help!
