TP losing SMTP settings

Submitted by portableGas on August 1, 2009 - 5:46pm

Almost every time I launch Thunderbird Portable and try to send an email, I get an error that it can't connect to the SMTP server. When I check Account Settings -- Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings, the Description, Server Name and User Name are blank.

Has anyone else seen this happen?

Running Linux on one device and Windows on the other.

OK, this is probably a rather stupid question that has been asked before but here it goes. I'm running Fedora Core 7 on the computer I use for a desktop and Windows XP Home edition on the little computer I drag around. I'm assuming that Thunderbird Portable on a flash drive will work nicely on both computers,is my assumption correct? Also, I'm assuming that I can back up Thunderbird Portable on one of the computers just in case something happens to the flash drive.

Thanks for your help.

More than one copy installed?

Submitted by qussuvagsi on July 31, 2009 - 3:54pm

Is it possible to install more than one copy of Thunderbird at once?

I could really make a case for needing three copies...

One for old, classic personal email. (Several years old, but I still reference some technical messages occasionally. And I just simply don't want to loose it.)

A second one for my current personal email.

A third one for business mail.

I took a look at it and I tried to do it by changing some stuff in the app\appinfo\appinfo.ini file but it doesn't look that's enough.

ThunderBrowse Addon to Launch FirefoxPortable?

Submitted by Augi on July 21, 2009 - 3:28pm

Solution: Using %DRIVE%\FirefoxPortable\FirefoxPortable.exe as the path to FFP.

I am wondering if anyone has any luck using ThunderBrowse to launch an external browser, namely Firefox Portable. I have tried using relative paths and absolute paths to the FirefoxPortable.exe, but without success. No matter what I do it either opens the system's installed version of FF or the EXE located in FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox opens but not in a portable mode (none of my bookmarks or settings are configured).

I have tried the paths:
..\..\FirefoxPortable\FirefoxPortable.exe

HELP!!! I need to re-create an archive using the thunderbird program!

Submitted by mungagungadin on July 21, 2009 - 3:24pm

In my line of work, I am not allowed to keep the work documents saved in any computers, only in thumbdrives/external drives. My thumbdrive disappeared, and I hooked up the harddrive- nothing! According to the geek squad- irreparable. I asked my bro about anything that could help me, and he suggested Thunderbird. I stumbled my way through installing it to my new thumbdrives and my email accounts are downloading now.

Please, please... can anyone tell me how to command this program to download all the attachments into another file in my thumbdrive?

Hi

I'm running thunderbird portable on my memory stick, I did the update last week to the latest suggested version (the one that popped up in the update window). It says my current version is version 2.0.0.22 (20090605)

I haven't updated TB since I installed portable apps 1.1 as I haven't had bandwidth.

Now my inbox has below it a whole lot of random folders named /, $ etc. The last few folders are named by single letters a to t Whats in my inbox is a small percent of my mail(seems to be only unread mail, and the other folders are gone.

Thunderbird Portable wont start

Submitted by akirkessner on July 7, 2009 - 8:57am

I have Thunderbird portable on a usb stick and until yesterday have had no problems. This version travels between my win xp machine at work and a vista machine at home. Yesterday Thunderbird would not start on the XP machine but will run fine on the Vista machine. I tried re-install of the portable app but no change. The error I get is a non-specific error "thunderbird.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I also have Firefox portable on the same usb stick and it works fine. Can anyone help?
Thank you
Adam
