TBird Portable not exiting cleanly

Submitted by Wilberforce on November 16, 2008 - 9:24am

I've noticed of late that clicking the "Eject" button on my menu (I'm on PAM Mod R31 I think), then asking windows to stop my flash drive generates an error message along the lines of "Windows was unable to stop this device. Please try again later"

Closer inspection reveals that thunderbirdportable.exe and thunderbird.exe are still showing as running processes on the task manager, taking up about 750Kb and 15Mb of memory respectively.

When I double click on some attachements a window appears asking for the application to open the attachement with. One of the options is a check box that says "Do this automaticaly for files like this from now on". In some cases this check box is greyed out.

How can change this so that I can launch that type of attachement with a specific application each time?
Thank a lot

Submitted by SilentWalker on November 12, 2008 - 4:22pm

why is it that MTP takes about 3-4 hours to compact one of my local folders that only 100 messages. it slows down my entire computer, but not when its not compacting. in other words, compacting = slow. Dont tell me i can turn off compacting bcuz thats not the point, the fact is that its not supposed to take so so sooooo long. its also frustrating bcuz you cant use it AT ALL while its compacting. if you do, it freezes up and doesnt respond. can any1 help of have any answers. Oh, and another thing, does local folders take up more space than those on, say like pop.gmail.com folders?

Server gets 'Negative vibes'

Submitted by Frank1 on November 11, 2008 - 3:47pm

I have installed TBP with the Webmail and Hotmail plug-ins.

When I try to get mail from hotmail, the following happens:
- the status line says that it is connecting to the server,
- a popup then asks for password,
- then another popup saying the server received "Negative Vibes" while processing my password,
- it then asks for my password again,
- then the sattus line goes blank and no emails downloaded.

Setup Help

Submitted by Kussetsu on November 11, 2008 - 2:51am

Hello everyone... I have just installed TB Portable, and now I need help setting it up. I would like to set it up for yahoo if possible. I need to know EXACTLY what to do from the first run... that means with the account wizard and everything... I have read that to do yahoo, I need either Yahoo Plus or YPOPS... don't wanna pay for Yahoo Plus and YPOPS seems feasible - if it is portable... I also read something about a webmail add-on that can do the yahoo feature... but I have NO idea on how to set up an email client...
