Web page links in email - Portable TB 1.5 vs. 2.0

Submitted by EVBrown on September 18, 2007 - 10:53pm

I have held off upgrading to Portable TB 2.0 until just recently. Portable TB 1.5 was working fine, so I figured if it was not broke, don't fix it. I am testing out 2.0.0.6 and am troubled by different behavior. I have separate directories, so I can test out both. Here is what I observe.

TB 1.5
When I click on a web page link in an email, it opens my Portable Firefox, switches to the FF application and loads the appropriate page.

TB 2.0

TB-p opens link via temporary local file, how to switch this off?

Submitted by gurkc006 on September 18, 2007 - 2:56pm

I´m using TB portable 2.0.0.6 (20070728). When I click on a link in an email, TB calls the default browser. But instead of invoking the webpage from the link, the browser loads a html-file from a local temporary folder (eg. C:\temp\user.htm, when the original link in the mail was https://portableapps.com/user). So it seems, that TB tries to load the webpage itself to a local copy and then invokes the default browser with this temporary file.
This might be a security feature to not leave any information in the browsers history. The files itself are deleted when exiting TB.

TB 2.0.0.6 PE peculiar rendering problem

Hi!

I just installed Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 PE and already having a problem with it. It renders the inbox message list quite disturbingly. It's hard to explain so I took a screenshot that can be found here.

I have been desperately trying to get it to work but with little luck. I hope someone knows a solution because I really like the program. I'm running TB from my USB-stick on a Dell Latitude D8100 laptop. The problem doesn't occur on my desktop computer.

Portable Thunderbird Virus with AVG ver. 7.5.485 - 269.13.13

Dear Loyal Mozilla Users

Today after updating AVG I got a Virus alert on my Thunderbird Portable stating this virus "Obfustat.NPD" was a Threat. I tried to Heal it but it still comes up. I tried to Move to Vault but it still comes up. putting 2 and 2 together - I figured out it is the "newadvsplash.dll" screen that come up when I launch the portable version. Personally I think this issue is AVG fault and needs to be corrected by them. But if Anyone as a clue on how to fix this issue - I would be happy to try it.

Autorun Portable apps suite

Submitted by brianpbrown on September 10, 2007 - 5:36am

I have been using Pstart for about 9 months and recently changed to the Portable Apps Suite and am having trouble with Autorun. It works on some computers but not all.
Sometimes I have to open Windows Explorer to open Portable Apps and on some of the computers I use at work, when I open Thunderbird, I do not get requester box to enter my password to receive/sent emails. All the computers I am using are running XP SP2. Some work OK, some don't. Can anyone explain and offer solution?
