Cache folder in profile/Mail/Cache

Submitted by kermik on October 12, 2012 - 6:47am

My Portable Thunderbird version 16.0 keeps creating a folder under profile/mail called "Cache" with subfolders 0, 1, 2, 3 etc + letters A-F. When I delete the folder, they reappear when I restart Thunderbird. Mozilla forums says that this is used by the optional disk cache added in Thunderbird 3.0.
This happens even if I've set the space used by Thunderbird to zero in Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network & Disk Space -> Disk Space.
Any ideas anyone?

Hello,
I use thunderbird portable (15.0.1) on a external hard drive.

I used to miss some space on it few days ago, so I cleaned it and now 1go free space.

Yet, I have a message error of TP telling I need to free space.
I have compacted all my folders manually and with a special app for it.

How can i do?

Thunderbird 15.0.1 leaves behind folders AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Extensions

Sometimes this gets left behind (it is not always removed by app), too - AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Crash Reports\InstallTime .*

And, it does not seem to clear this automatically when found, on restart.

On the other hand,
Firefox 15.0.1 creates and removes this folder, [AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Extensions].

One thing I noticed is that Thunderbird creates a separate folder for
AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Crash Reports\InstallTime .*
Meanwhile,
Firefox uses AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports

Transferring settings from memory stick to memory stick

Submitted by Mike W on September 20, 2012 - 11:11am

For a few years now I have used a sandisk cruzer titanium U3 stick with Thunderbird for my emails. Now have Windows 7 and I know it doesn't work with 7.

How can I transfer my email settings and, if possible, all my emails, from the cruzer to a new memory stick.

Thanks,

Mike

Thunderbird portable version not correctly recognized

Submitted by Jorge XXXXX on September 15, 2012 - 6:53am

When I try to install some addons or personas from mozilla addons the button for instalation is greyed out and if I click I get this message:

Esta Persona requiere Thunderbird 3.1.Actualmente estás usando Thunderbird 2.0.0.16.

Trad:

This persona requires Thunderbird 3.1.*. You are currently using Thunderbird 2.0.0.16.

I'm not really sure if the version of TBP is badly encoded in some place or is a problem with some addons. I really got this problem with every persona I try to install and only some addons.

Portable Thunderbird 15 not working in Ubuntu Wine 1.4

Submitted by winghoe on September 11, 2012 - 6:21am

Hi,

I have just installed Ubuntu on my laptop and thought that with Wine 1.4, I could get Thunderbird Portable on my USB stick to run flawlessly. However, that wasn't the case and Thunderbird could not start.

I've done a lot of tests and hope that this can help to diagnose what's wrong. My suspect after all these testings, seem to point to "prefs.js".

Scenario #1
1. Download and install fresh copy of Thunderbird Portable in hard disk.
2. Double click ThunderbirdPortable.exe.
3. Thunderbird Portable (via Wine) started up.
Conclusion: Thunderbird Portable is working.
