Portability Issue with Windows XP

Submitted by donleavy on December 20, 2008 - 3:51am

First may I congratulate the developers on a cracking release.

I (finally) installed this product with no problems and it ran just fine.

I failed the first time because although the completion window popped up the install was not complete due to the lack of shortcuts to the program/s.

My major problem came when I tried to drag'n'drop the 'OpenOfficePortable' folder to another location.

Windows complained that one or more of the paths was too long and could not complete the copy.

OpenOffice cannot start on Vista32sp1. Only till splashh screen.

I tried right click menu "Run As Administrator" item.
And I tried to launch "\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable\App\openoffice\program\soffice.exe" also.
I tried both 3.0 and 2.4 versions.
Any OpenOffice App.

But all another Apps work fine.

The picture is the same.

Portable Openoffice 3 Trojan Keylog-sters

Submitted by fishofchaos on December 19, 2008 - 1:17pm

Hi, I've been having problems with the new portable OO3. Whenever I try to run it, my "Spyware Doctor" software reports that OO3 is tying to install the Trojan: Keylog-sters. If I block this then OO3 says it has failed to install and won't run. If I allow it it does start but I'm obviously concerned. Previous versions worked fine.
Is this a false positive by SD or ...

Error messages launching OpenOffice.org

Submitted by JKerwin on December 18, 2008 - 4:23pm

Thanks for the new OO.o 3.0 offering. It's nice for PA to be in sync with the latest version. (I don't write this as a criticism; usually PA is so quick to get new versions out the door that I use it as my "alarm" to update software on my regular computers! I don't know how you do it.)

I'm getting two error messages when trying to launch OpenOffice.org 3.0:

1) "Error loading BASIC of document
file:///H:PortableApps/OpenOfficePortable/App/openoffice/Basis/share/basic/

Instructions for removing splash screen don't work

Submitted by xrvjorn on December 14, 2008 - 9:24am

OOo Writer takes less than 1 second to load and display a file on my computer, but I have to wait for the splash screen to disappear for about 5 seconds, so I tried to remove it by placing an OpenOfficeWriterPortable.ini file in the same directory as OpenOfficeWriterPortable.exe with this content:

[OpenOfficeWriterPortable]
DisableSplashScreen=true

However, I still get the five second splash screen. What have I missed?

OOo crashes when trying to save a query or table with existing name

Submitted by Parmenion on December 9, 2008 - 12:27pm

At first I'm using the german version off OOo.

Open the designview to build a new table or query.
After building this new new table or query OOo(german) suggests as table/query
name "Tabelle1"/"Abfrage1" even if there is a table/query with this name.
When trying to save with this existing table/query name OOo crashes.

I've verified this happens also in the english version. Just using the names
"Table1" and "Query1"

One strange thing to me is: OOo suggests twice the same name "Table1" and
"Query1" when saving.

Open Office Writer-Zotero-Firefox integration problems

Submitted by inlandsurfer1 on December 2, 2008 - 11:25am

I am having continuous problems with the portable open office writer and portable firefox using zotero (but damn I really like portable apps!). The zotero extension works fine on firefox portable, but with open office its a different story. I copied over the python files like it says on the previous forums, but I still kept getting these runtime errors and it wouldnt install. Finally I reverted back to version OOo portable 2.2.1 and it seems to load ok until the end. It had a similar error but it at least loads the add-on and is present when I restart open office.
