OpenOffice Portable

No Menu Bar

Submitted by .hiddenFile on April 12, 2007 - 5:44pm

I downloaded OpenOffice.org Portable, and it works seamlessly in Windows XP. However, I ran it from my USB (Lexar Jumpdrive 2.0 Pro) on a Windows 98SE machine and the menu bar didn't appear. When I right clicked on the "Drawing" menu bar (none of the buttons appeared on that one), I clicked on Configure>Menu, but then Windows did that usual freezing up, and I had to end the program. I then copied it to the hard drive, but got the same results.

OO leaves newadvsplash.dll

I understand a similar problem has been posted before here.
https://portableapps.com/node/5269

I've posted but didn't get a response.
I launch my OO Writer, Calc and Math directly from the Portable Apps Menu.
However, after closing the programs, I notice that they leave a newadvsplash.dll file in a random name folder
C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temp\nsy32.tmp\newadvsplash.dll

Solution to open .docx

Hey everyone,

I stumbled upon portable apps on the weekend and I think it's a great idea. I also wish I had found it earlier; could have been very usesul as a computer science student working in the school labs (I graduate in a few weeks, haha). Anywho, onto the point.

Open Office Problems

Submitted by nakedparrot on April 8, 2007 - 5:44am

I've installed and reinstalled OpenOffice numerous times and still I get an app, or maybe two, to run and then they all refuse to run. If this is the best Sun can do then it's no wonder they haven't made any headway against MSOffice. In fact, I find the program amateurish-looking and a far cry from a professional office suite of applications.
Very disappointing.

using a localized version of openoffice as a portable version

Submitted by d_leaper@netvis... on April 8, 2007 - 5:39am

hello,
i am new to this portable business and was wondering if there is an option to use a localized version of the Openoffice suite as a portable version.

i am taking about the Hebrew version (with or without a hebrew interface). they now have it in 2.04 (comparable to the original 2.04 of Openoffice).

UPDATE:
so i found this guide for how to install the local version.
https://portableapps.com/node/1487

3 question about it:
1. it says to "first download your file in en-us version. extract all files and directory like you asking to do for the install process".

Hi John,
we know, that You have a lot to do with all the portable Apps.

We offer again the creation of OpenOffice.orgPortable (next 2.2) in English, French and and any other version You want.

I could upload the en version for testing on tuesday.

If there is a newer version of the launcher as published in the 2.1.0 RC let it me know, I will add it to the new version in order to get a really nice OpenOffice.orgPortable 2.2 for Portable Apps.

Import EPS files into Impress?

Submitted by twnty3svn on April 1, 2007 - 8:43pm

Hi everyone,

This has been really frustrating me, but I'm trying to import a EPS file into Impress, but it keeps coming up as text. I've searched Google, and the forums, but they all seem to say that OOo does import EPS file. I'm not sure if this is a limitation on the Portable version, but can someone let me know if it is fact possible, and if so how?

Thanks.

Open Office Updating

I have just started using portable apps this week, but have been using Open Office on my PC some some time. Today they announced a new version (2.2.0) which I have uploaded to my desktop machine.

Yesterday i installed the current portable version onto my flash drive via Portable Apps menu, and when I used that this afternoon I got a message saying a later version is available, this being the new 2.2.0 version according to the OO web site.
