Google Chrome Install help?

Submitted by theophilus on January 16, 2011 - 12:27am

Hey guys...
So here's my problem.
I've been using a portable version of Google Chrome on my family's main computer, and have finally convinced my dad to let me install it natively (for all users).

I went to the Google Packs page (In Internet Explorer), and went through the process to start the installation.
Everything was going well, until it came to the part where Chrome was to be installed.

SkypePortable forgets login credentials when swapping machines

Submitted by thasmo on January 14, 2011 - 2:27pm

Hi folks!

I'm using SkypePortable with www.dropbox.com and everytime I launch SkypePortable on the other machine (Windows Vista and Windows 7) it can't find the login credentials, although I've marked 'automatically login on launch'.

The directory where the app resides on Windows 7 is
"C:\Users\Thasmo\Documents\My Dropbox\Applications\PortableApps\SkypePortable"

I believe Dropbox on Windows Vista has a different path
and so the path to SkypePortable is different:
"C:\Users\Thasmo\My Dropbox\Applications\PortableApps\SkypePortable"

Trojan in EraserDropPortable 2.1 ?

Submitted by amemait on January 14, 2011 - 1:42pm

My McAfee virus scanner just detected the Artemis!E4857B9E3DF5 Trojan in the gdiplus.dll during installation of EraserDropPortable version 2.1 (just downloaded today).

Has anyone else seen this?

I've used an earlier version of the app before, and it did *not* have the trojan in it. The app still _seems_ to work without the (replacement) DLL.

Info on the (original) DLL:

Updating Spybot Portable 1.62

Submitted by Frobozz on January 12, 2011 - 10:38pm

The includes in Spybot Portable are old. Here is how to update them:

Go to Safer Networking's download page, which has the Detection Updates -

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

DL the and run the latest spybotsd_includes.exe

This opens a dialog box, where you can browse to where your portable spybot is. It's likely to be here (fill in your own drive letter) -

K:\PortableApps\SpybotPortable\App\Spybot\

After install, browse to the App\Spybot folder, now look in the includes folder, and you should see newer files.

Open .jar file w/Java Portable Launcher

Submitted by Aqualung on January 12, 2011 - 3:48pm

Is there any way I can automate the launching of a .jar file using the Java Portable Launcher w/o having to go through all this detour of specifying the .jar file interactive menu etc.? Can the Java Portable Launcher be launched with arguments, where one could specify the .jar file to launch? What I need is to click on an icon in the PortableApps.com menu that automatically launches my .jar file, with no interaction whatsoever. Can this be done?

GnuCash Portable 2.4.0... when?

Submitted by portablepsychedelic on January 12, 2011 - 12:56am

Hello all.

GnuCash 2.4.0 was released on December 21 (2010) and I was wondering how long would it take to make it portable?
Anyone has any idea on tips on how to?
I think this application might be hard to be made portable... because of the registry entries and so...

I think the author of the latest portable version here (Shawn Faucher) hasn't been active for a while, so I did not know where else to ask.

[Fixed] Gnumeric 1.10.12 leaves gtkfilechooser.ini

The new Gnumeric release leaves the gtkfilechooser.ini inside the %APPDATA%/gtk-2.0 folder as shown in the Regshot below:

----------------------------------

Dateien hinzugefügt (files added):
----------------------------------

C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\PortableApps\Anwendungsdaten\gtk-2.0\gtkfilechooser.ini

----------------------------------

Ordner hinzugefügt (folders added):
----------------------------------

C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\PortableApps\Anwendungsdaten\gtk-2.0

Has anyone else made that observation too?
