IObit Uninstaller 7.2.0.11 Update Not Found

Submitted by NotMine on December 19, 2017 - 1:03am

When I attempt to update via the Portable Apps menu, a dialog box pops up with a "404" error message saying the redirect to where the actual online storage location of the ".exe" reports "File Not Found".

I do not use this app often, but when I see this error start to occur with Portable Apps during update it tends to predict the app is no longer available online.

Temp File Location

Submitted by deppdammischer on December 13, 2017 - 11:22pm

Hello, I use portable apps on several machines at work. I have found that my user preferences are saved on the machine and not on the stick. I thought one of the purposes of portable apps was to be able to take your customized apps wherever you go. I find myself re-configuring and reinstalling addons every time I attempt to use one. Am I missing something? Is there a way to have the apps store the user prefs on the stick?

Thanks!

Transfer my portable apps folder from Windows 7 to Windows 10

Submitted by jojothehobo on December 10, 2017 - 11:05pm

Hi All;
I have a set of around 50 portable apps installed in my portable apps platform in a Windows 7 Professional machine. I arrived at them over a few years and feel it is customized to my needs. Thanks to/for PortableApps for this great service. (Yes, I do donate)
My question is whether I can copy my PortableApps folder to my new Windows 10 machine, adjust the startup shortcut for the platform, and still have them work, or at least most of them work (is there a list of these? ) I did a forum search and didn't find a thread or article discussing this.

Ad Blocking and donating

Submitted by vpdura on December 8, 2017 - 8:31am

Hello, and many thanks for a great source of portable software. I don't like to see advertisements, so I use an ad-blocker. I have also been a donor to PortableApps.com for at least the past 5 years. Nevertheless, when I login I see the message "Please consider white-listing us in your ad blocker or making a donation so we can keep bringing you awesome free software."

Since I'm a donor, is there anyway I can avoid seeing the message, or should I just ignore it?

Thanks.

Bringing back limited pre-packaged suites?

I've been considering bringing back the pre-packaged suites on a limited basis. As apps have proliferated and gotten more complicated, there would be some limitations to minimize time spent packaging and supporting them. The suites would be in English and designed for new installs only. This allows me to forgo having to code in the installer upgrade code for every app on every release and not try to package tons of different languages. The suites would be updated on a monthly basis and versioned appropriately (PortableApps.com Suite Standard 2018.12, for instance).
