U3 Apps (Discontinued)

Firefox, Thunderbird and OpenOffice.org for U3 by PortableApps.com

Is it a BIG bug?

Submitted by Anthony_Xie on August 14, 2006 - 10:04am

Hi,

I install the openoffice V2.0.2 in my U3 device successfully. Then I get an interesting result.

"C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\U3\0C410B50C2011A90\285E6953-BF3C-4445-9376-2F55D7F645B8\Exec\"

The path above is which u3 create for openoffice when U3 is inserted into a computer. Openoffice can run up and work well in Chinese version WinXp, but not in English version WinXp.

I add a new login user "abc" in my English WinXp, and the path is changed to the following:

"C:\Documents and Settings\abc\Application Data\U3\0C410B50C2011A90\285E6953-BF3C-4445-9376-2F55D7F645B8\Exec\"

FireFoxPortable for U3 & DOM Inspector

John,

After I updated my FFP4U3 from 1.5.0.43 to 1.5.0.6 the DOM INSPECTOR became inoperative with a message that it is not compatable with .06
I guess this has something to do with something I read that the DOM INSPECTOR has to be part of the original install or something like that (sorry).

Will this be fixed in the next update of FFP4U3?

Thanks for all your great work

Replace U3 Launchpad With PStart

Submitted by Bulldog on August 8, 2006 - 10:49am

...yes, I do mean "replace".

The U3 Launchpad is able to start automatically when a U3 USB drive is inserted because the drive's firmware emulates a CD. Apparently, Windows XP doesn't process autorun.inf from a 'regular' USB drive.

I have my reasons for disliking the U3 platform, but that's off topic here. Ideally, I'd like to bypass the U3 Launchpad altogether in favor of PStart...but how do I get PStart to start without first starting the Launchpad?

There may be a way, but I need your help.

When you open the second drive letter created by a U3 USB drive, you see it has the autorun.inf file that starts the Launchpad. What if I were to edit the autorun.inf and have it point to PStart instead?

FFP for U3 is #1

FF Portable for U3 is the number one download at U3 Software Central!

Way to go John!

Has anyone noticed that the YourBrainz version is not even listed at U3 anymore?
I checked out their site the other day and it wasn't even list there.

Has it been taken out of service?

By the way I was checking it out to see what version the PortableApps FF was. They still have 1.5.0.43

By the way I know this is not a support question. I wasn't sure how to find the U3 General Discussion Form

?:-)

T-Bird Local Profile

Submitted by BobDoleX on August 5, 2006 - 9:48pm

Can someone please clarify how I can copy my local settings to my U3 T-bird? There seems to be no way to access the directories of U3 programs, so I cannot simply copy & paste the profile folder contents. Thank you!

Firefox - Too Many Bookmark backups

Submitted by jld44 on July 30, 2006 - 9:54am

I noticed in my Firefox-U3 profile folder, there are about 60 backup copies of my bookmarks.html and my prefs.js files. This is way too many backups, but I cant seem to find any way to stop them from being generated. It seems there are 2 of each backed up every time I exit firefox. They are taking up too much space and see no real need for more than 1 or 2 backup copies. HELP!
