U3 T-bird profiles

Submitted by djenner on July 29, 2006 - 12:14pm

On portable (as opposed to in-my-study) machines, I have Thunderbird set up with different profiles; one accesses mail through the in-house mailserver (lots of filtering and additional security); the other picks up and sends the mail using direct connections to the relevant servers. Accessing the profile manager is, in the usual way of things, a matter of inputing a command line parameter "-profilemanager" using start -> run.

There seems to be no way to do this in the U3 version of Thunderbird. It does not seem to me likely that simply copying profiles from, e. g., the Thunderbird installation on one of my notebooks would be trivial.

U3 portable firefox, unlauchable after auto update , please help!

Submitted by sid on July 26, 2006 - 8:11pm

Portable firefox on my U3 drive has not functioned since it auto-updated while in use.

It has been unable to launch since the update. It generates an error message: " firefox.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows , an error log is being created".

Uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it to the U3 drive did not help. Switching computers does not help. The Marathon browser generated the same error message but after uninstalling/reinstall now works. Thanks!

Proxy at Home vs work

Submitted by wsm23 on July 26, 2006 - 6:19pm

This may be a FF specific question, but...

I just started a new job. My U3 PFF by John works great at home, laptop and at my old job, but...

When I plugged into my new computer at the new job I found that I could open PFF, but I could not connect to certain sites, like yahoo and google, the only one that will work so far is google mail.

PTB works just fine. Filezilla works.

If I use proxy settings then can I switch them easily every time and is that what I need?

Any suggestions for getting PFF to work?

BTW I did search and could not find a problem like mine, plus the multiple location thing.

Disable U3 Firefox Splash Screen

Submitted by alpha123 on July 18, 2006 - 3:49pm

How do you disable the U3 Firefox splash screen that is displayed when you start up the program? (I have tried looking for info on this from the portable firefox section of this forum, but the procedure for the portable firefox doesn't seem to work for the U3 firefox)

Just want to say that I do appreciate the U3 version, and thanks!
