AutoLauncher4U3 - Launch Your Own Menu App

Submitted by computechx on June 23, 2006 - 4:24pm

I've created an auto launcher for the U3 drives.
Currently the install process only works on SanDisk.
It replaces the LaunchU3.exe on the CD-Rom portion of the U3 Drive.
It will search for {drive letter}\Launcher.ini and read the path to your menu app.
If it doesn't find the launcher.ini it will prompt you for the path to your menu app and create the launcher.ini on the root of the drive where the menu app is located.

New Version now downloads and runs the installer for you.
Just keep clicking next.
New Update New Installer and more informational settings screen.

You can download it here.

u3 PFF & bookmarks

Submitted by holocron on June 20, 2006 - 10:17am

I recently purchased a U3 drive and installed portable firefox. I think did an update to version 1.5.0.4 of firefox.

The problem I seem to be having is that my bookmarks do not seem to hold on the u3 drive. By this, i mean that I keep importing my bookmarks. They then show up in PFF. But if I close PFF and reopen it they are gone.

Any thoughts?

Some Answers & Info about U3 LaunchPad

Submitted by computechx on June 19, 2006 - 8:29pm

Ok here is what I have found through some digging and research.
I have personall tested these findings as well.

Can you remove the U3 portion of the U3 drive completely?
YES

Can you reinstall it once it is removed?
YES

Can you install your own "Launcher" or script into the "U3 System Drive"
YES

If you run the software update from the U3 LaunchPad it connects to the manufacturers website (in this case Sandisk).
It then runs an ActiveX control which downloads 2 files...
http://u3.sandisk.com/download/apps/LPInstaller.exe
http://u3.sandisk.com/download/apps/LPInstaller.CAB
Once downloaded to your machine the ActiveX control executes LPInstaller which will download an ISO file to your machine.

U3 question

I have a PNY 512mb usb dribe, and I want at least 1gb, but they come with the U3 system and I don't want it. Can I get rid of it and use it as if it were a common usb drive like my PNY? [want to avoid installing the U3 on every computer I get to]

Firefox for U3 on Sandisk Cruzer Micro

Submitted by jpeu3 on May 16, 2006 - 10:13am

I've just bought a Sandisk Cruzer Micro (4GB) and installed a few new apps on it. One of these was Firefox for U3. I've used Portable Firefox for some time (with PStart) and would be totally lost without it now - great app.

On the U3 drive it appears to have overwritten the default (Sandisk) Firefox U3 install which means the "Sandisk U3 Website" link in Launcher won't work nor will "Support on the Web" link within Launcher.

Additionally when I try to upgrade CruzerSync I get the message "Firefox for U3 cannot be started. You may wish to re-install to fix the issue. (ERROR:The program could not be found: H:\System\Apps\EC30627F-0195-44d4-1B09F3C02C50\Exec\firefox\firefox.exe)"
