Skype for U3

Submitted by devchild on July 6, 2008 - 7:25pm

I had a question for John and other PA developers that do work for U3 applications as well. I noticed that U3 hasn't updated its Skype version in a long time and was wondering if you knew anything from other U3 developers regarding it being updated. I was just curious if they were dropping support for it or just haven't gotten around to doing the update. It's currently at 3.5 with the current Skype version being 3.8.

Opera Portable

Hey there,

Maybe it's useful to add Opera Portable to the "U3" system. They've blocked on my school Firefox because of downloading but they don't know that there are many webbrowsers.

Deleting U3 platform from drive

Submitted by crshortt on May 31, 2008 - 9:50am

When I first started using Portable Apps about a year ago I installed everything on a 2 GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro which was also U3 enabled. I soon decided I liked Portable Apps better and deleted all the U3 programs to free up space. I never did figure out how to delete the last 6 MB or so that is the U3 drive. This contains 3 things - an autorun.inf, LaunchPad.zip, and LaunchU3.exe. The small about of space still tied up is no big deal but I have grown tired of that separate drive showing up every time I plug in my flash.

The RC for Mozilla Firefox is great, changed a lot and so much more clean.

Before I install - any conflict with U3?

I searched, but guess I couldn't figure out which keywords to use,
because the results weren't helpful. Apologies in advance.

Have a U3 flash drive,
have U3 version of Firefox all set up the way I like it,
also don't want to have to reinstall U3 later (assuming I can), if I take it off.

I want to try out PortableApps . . .
will the two conflict if I have them running at the same time off the flash drive?

Problem with Mozilla Thunderbird and SanDisk U3

Submitted by gregorygso on March 24, 2008 - 8:23pm

Recently I was prompted to upgrade the U3 application on my SanDisk U3 Cruzer to the latest version (currently U3 Launchpad Version 1,6,1,1). I did this on my laptop running WinXP Pro SP2. After upgrade, Thunderbird will no longer run on the laptop. Attempts to start it result in no activity. Other U3 programs (Firefox, for example) will launch and run OK. I can move my USB drive to my desktop, and it functions fine and Thunderbird runs.
