U3 Apps (Discontinued)

Firefox, Thunderbird and OpenOffice.org for U3 by PortableApps.com

Possible?

Submitted by fireuser on April 3, 2007 - 10:28pm

I was wondering if it would be possible to copy all of the files from the CD partition of a U3 drive to the Removable Disk portion of the U3 drive, and remove the U3 part, so there is only a removable disk left, with the files from the cd (that no longer exists) on it, and have the U3 menu run from those files. So, in a nutshell, I'd like to keep the U3 menu, but not have the CD partition. Is there any form of this that could be possible?

Wallpaper Swapper

I have a problem with Wallpaper Swapper for U3 ... it doesn't do anything.

My U3 thumb drive reads as two drives: "F" for U3 and "G" for PortableApps. U3 is exclusively U3 executables while PortableApps holds everything... music, pictures, documents, and of course PA software.

The instructions for Wallpaper Swapper are simple: Put the bitmap file called "windows.bmp" in the Document folder of the root directory. I've tried it there and many other folders and given up.

Could the fact my "second" drive is called "PortableApps" be part of the problem?

Thunderbird Application Error (0xc0000006)

Submitted by Jeffers on March 24, 2007 - 10:56am

I have just bought a Sandisk Cruzer Titanium 2GB U3, and want to continue using Thunderbird Portable, which I have been using on a previous flash drive. I have Thunderbird U3 installed on the new flash drive and I have copied the contents of the 'Profile' folder to the new application. The flash drive and program work ok on my laptop at home, but when I try to launch thunderbird on my desktop in work I get the Application Error (0xc0000006). Other programs appear to work ok on the deskop machine - just Thunderbird that won't.

Quick Question

I just bought a sandisk 2g usb drive and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to uninstall the U3 software and format the drive? or can I just use portable apps with with the u3 still on there?

Thunderbird U3 issues as default mail app

Submitted by jasoneu on March 22, 2007 - 12:20pm

I'm running Windows XP and ThunderBird for U3 (version 1.5.0.10 (20070221). I recently decided to try using my TB U3 as my default mail client, but ran into a few problems. Whenever I try to click on a mailto HTML tag in my web browser, Thunderbird will open up, but will prompt me to create a new account (I have three as it is!) How do I stop this from happening and be able to use a default email client the way it was meant to be used?
