U3 OOo 3

I would like to make OOo 3 for U3 from PA's version, using the same method I described in the FF3 U3 thread. To summarize, this would involve the following:

Removing the PA branding (but finding some other way to give credit where it's due without implying that you support my efforts or are responsible if something goes wrong)

Create a U3 Package that contains the unbranded, but otherwise unmodified PA Installer

On first run, rather than running OOo, it actually runs the installer with the /DESTINATION command-line argument set to the U3 program path.

Problems running Mozilla Thunderbird for U3

Submitted by alvsan on November 10, 2008 - 3:51am

I got my USB flash drive four months ago and I'm been working successfully with it until now that my new laptop runs with Vista. The problem now is that when I try to open Mozilla Thunderbird for U3, I get the following message: "Thunderbird for U3 cannot be started. You may wish to reinstall to fix this issue. (ERROR: The program could not be found:\thunderbird\thunderbird.exe."
I've got stored hundreds of email stored on my flash drive and I don't want to loose all that information.

My U3 Drive used to work fine, but now it doesn't at all. When I used to plug it in it would pop up a message saying it needed to disconnect from my computer before it could run properly. When I hit ok it woulb open the launchpad. Now instead it opens a blank folder from within the U3 drive. PLEASE HELP, I need to be able to use this drive. It works fine on other computers. This comp is connected to a network and I do not have administrative rights.

I know that the U3 platform is no longer officially supported by portableapps.com, but do you still accept user-submitted apps? I have Pidgin U3 in good working order I'd be glad to upload.

Hard time swithching from U3 to Portableapps.com

If you look through the forums you will see that a long time ago I did a post speaking of how upset I was with U3. I bought the drive and a few weeks later I got Vista and it wouldn't work. Well eventually I did exchange my U3 drives for ones with firmware that could work on Vista. I have been using my U3 drives like crazy. I have bought a ton of programs for U3 and have never had a problem since. I do have a new flash drive all setup with portableapps.com menu on it. I just can't seem to get all the commercial apps that U3 has for it. I use WinRar all the time.

Since firefox 3 doesn't exist for U3, I decided to do a u3 package by myself...
But I want to do a question:
If I just replace the files of the firefox 2 for the files of the firefox 3 inside .u3p file, will firefox 3 work correctly? or I need to edit the launcher and recompile it? the launcher for firefox 2 is different from launcher of firefox 3? have more codes and etc...?
Thanks!

SanDisk Micro Cruzer 4 GB flash drive - computer suddenly not seeing it

Submitted by trekrobyn on July 7, 2008 - 2:35pm

I don't know if this is the right place for this question, but I hope someone can help.

I am running Windows XP on my main computer.

I have a SanDisk 4 GB micro cruzer flash drive, with U3 Launchpad installed on it.

The flash drive works FINE at my office computer (also running XP)

But, when I put the flash drive into my home computer (where it used to work a few months ago), absolutely nothing happens. The U3 Launchpad does not come on, and when I look in Windows Explorer, the flash drive is not listed among the drives that the computer can see and navigate to.
