Is there a way to disable the update check for a certain program?

Submitted by felix.bunke on July 31, 2012 - 9:45am

Hello. I've been holding off on updating Firefox to version 14, because my favorite theme, Charamel, is not yet compatible with it (but I'm hoping it will be soon). Today, when I launched the platform & it checked for updates, I absent-mindedly clicked to have it install the updates, and I forgot to uncheck Firefox first. So, I just got done going back to Firefox 13.

Can't Install on Flash Drive

Submitted by Marie Whitehead on July 16, 2012 - 2:19am

I bought one of the pre-installed flash drives and as soon as I inserted it into my desktop it asked to update the platform which I said yes. Then it stalled during the install giving me error "Extract: error writing to file PortableAppsPlatform.exe." If I click ignore it gives me another error for the next file it is trying to install. I eventually gave up and reformatted the flash drive. Same thing happened when I try to install the platform again. So I tried it with a different drive- got same problems. The platform will install on my desktop as will the apps.

[Closed] Updater says "install complete" even if its not

I run PokerTH Portable from my HDD while I have a USB drive plugged in. I run the updater from the stick and update my apps, including PokerTH. Rightly, it tells me to close PokerTH so it can update the copy on my drive. But when I hit "Abort", the comments-window still says "Install complete" which it shouldnt imho.

I am on Win 7.

Installer is doing nothing

First, a slightly offtopic rant. Why (when
portableapps is started) is there no "checking
for updates" message? I have to guess how long
it will take (before I can do something like
get more apps). If I attempt that before the
update check has finished, I get a warning
message, and then a list of "updates" with
"ERROR" in their title and a 0 MB size.

Anyway, I am trying to install additional
apps, but when I select them, I get (after a
few seconds) "apps have been installed and
are ready to use" when nothing has been
installed or even downloaded. Does anyone

Invalid Destination Folder

Submitted by ang_mor on July 9, 2012 - 6:38pm

In the PortableApps Installer (tried with Miranda, and Firefox) there is a bug. If you use destination folders such as:
C:\Program Files\MirandaPortable
"C:\Program Files\MirandaPortable"
you will get an error:
The destination folder you selected is invalid..............
If you use the 8.3 name (dir c: /x) then it will work:
C:\PROGRA~1\MirandaPortable

So, yes there is a workaround, but it is still a pain in the *** to have to wiggle every time I want to upgrade Miranda, or Firefox.

Error downloading App via the PA.com Platform.

I encountered countless errors when trying to download/install TeamViewer via the PA.com Platform.

--I kept getting the following message [image: http://i.imm.io/v7JK.jpeg]
The downloaded copy of TeamViewer Portable is not valid and can not be installed. This could be due to an incomplete download or other network issue. Please try running the updater again when complete.

I tried, restarted PA.com Platform, tried and tried again and again. I kept getting the same error. A manual download and installation using the PA.com installation app feature worked fine.

Legacy Suite

Submitted by dwebb5 on July 4, 2012 - 4:06pm

I would like a Legacy Suite compiled not because of Win98 but because of the old Flash Drives I have. They won't run on my Win7-64bit computer.

So far The Legacy Suite consists of:

Portable Apps: 1.6.1
Firefox Portable Legacy 36_3.6.28
Thunderbird Portable Legacy 31_3.1.19

Anything else I would have to test on the drive and a Win98 computer. If they work on Win98 then I'd test on WinXP.

Has anyone else complied such a list and tested them ?

Scan/Repair disk Error when I plug in

Submitted by Enforcer84 on July 3, 2012 - 4:57pm

I've been having some real issues with my portable apps. Every other time I put the USB in it says that my drive has errors on it. I've tried reinstalling it, uninstalling it, and now reformatting then installing.

It might just be a crappy flash drive but I'm bummed anyway. Anyone else having similar problems?

False Positive from enterprise level anti-viruses

Submitted by Selvec on July 2, 2012 - 7:44pm

Hi Guys

Recently I installed Portableapps.exe to my pen drive which I use at work. Its very useful for my job as the app's it allows me to run don't leave any mark on the local registry or HD. However, recently IT's Anti-virus marked the base .exe file as a possible threat. This is of course a false positive, however it could cause issues for anyone else using this in a business environment.

Threat detected: Suspicious Behaviour: HIPS/RemFileMod-002

I have a picture sent from IT, but can't upload at work so I'll have to do this later.
