Scan/Repair disk Error when I plug in

Submitted by Enforcer84 on July 3, 2012 - 4:57pm

I've been having some real issues with my portable apps. Every other time I put the USB in it says that my drive has errors on it. I've tried reinstalling it, uninstalling it, and now reformatting then installing.

It might just be a crappy flash drive but I'm bummed anyway. Anyone else having similar problems?

False Positive from enterprise level anti-viruses

Submitted by Selvec on July 2, 2012 - 7:44pm

Hi Guys

Recently I installed Portableapps.exe to my pen drive which I use at work. Its very useful for my job as the app's it allows me to run don't leave any mark on the local registry or HD. However, recently IT's Anti-virus marked the base .exe file as a possible threat. This is of course a false positive, however it could cause issues for anyone else using this in a business environment.

Threat detected: Suspicious Behaviour: HIPS/RemFileMod-002

I have a picture sent from IT, but can't upload at work so I'll have to do this later.

[Fixed] PortableAppsPlatform.exe stays in memory forever when launched second time, preventing next Platform startup

Submitted by shadowlmd on July 2, 2012 - 7:33pm

Sometimes I forget that I already launched PA.c Platform and launch it again. Nothing happens and I see that it's already running. I then quit it and next time I try to launch it, nothing happens. I have to start Task Manager and kill all running PortableAppsPlatform.exe processes before it can start up again.

OS: Windows 7 32-bit.
This does not happen on my other PC with Windows XP.

Start Portable Apps menu from Dropbox

Submitted by PortableUser2009 on June 22, 2012 - 11:50am

Hi John,

I just try out dropbox as a clowd to run Portable Apps in.
Is it possible to start the Portable Apps menu directly in Dropbox via web access and not from the local sync folder?
If I try so I get problems with finding the exe-files. This might be caused by the ini settings from the local sync folder. Do you have an idea how to solve this? Maybe relative paths might help but how does our platform handle this?
From the philosophy of portable apps it should be possible, shouldn't it?

Thanks in advance!

I can not rename my PortableApps.com-Enabled Drive. I followed these instructions:

To rename your PortableApps.com-enabled drive, just click on the drive name in the lower left corner of the menu. Type in the name you'd like and click the ">" button or hit enter on your keyboard. You may need to eject and reinsert your drive for the new name to show up in Windows Explorer.

After I type the name and click the ">" button (or hit enter), error message appears: Unable to write to G:\autorun.inf (G = my USB flash drive).

win+space I want it back!

Submitted by thany on June 18, 2012 - 8:06am

I would like to strongly suggest to bring back the win+space shortcut! It has never worked badly for me, for for me there was no valid reason for removing it. Furthermore, ctrl+alt+space is a pain to press. Just try it, the win-key is between the ctrl and alt. Ctrl+alt+space is very difficult to press without using your thumb. With the use of your thumb, you need to put your hand in an akward position. And all along the chance of accidentally pressing the win-key.

Win+space is MUCH MORE easy to press, by pinky+index finger.
