Installers update

Submitted by OwenMars on August 12, 2012 - 7:41pm

Excuse me Johm, could you update the KompozZer and Fotografix installers?
Both softwares don't get updates for a long time but many people need the new installer with default installation path.
It seems a strange request but I assure you it's for an important accessibility cause.
I hope in your reply, so thanks a lot in advance.

Confused

Submitted by Astronomyrocks on August 12, 2012 - 4:22am

Hi
I am confused about how to get portable apps onto my USB and I have 3 questions.

Question1:
Am I right in thinking that I can either download the PortableApps.com Platform 10.1.2 and get all of the apps in one go. Or I can download the apps individually of the get apps pages. Is that correct?

Question3:
If all of the above is correct and I am planning on downloading at least 30 of the apps am I best of downloading the all in one go using the PortableApps.com Platform 10.1.2 ?

Question3:
Is there a how to guide anywhere that would take me through it step by step?

PLEASE HELP

I like the idea of this software platform and would like to give it a try.. however, I am unable to install it to my 16GB USB 3.0 flash drive. I don't understand. It runs out of storage space. Yet you can buy 8GB pre-installed drive?? Very frustrating

PA.c Updater Proxy Settings

Submitted by dogtowndrums on August 2, 2012 - 11:53pm

Is there any way to manually configure the PA.c updater to work independent of MSIE settings (pushed via network policy) behind an ISA firewall? I'm able to use the Firefox portable app by manually clearing the proxy settings and Chrome portable by using the --no-proxy-server argument.

Now when I attempt to run the updater I get an error:

Unable to connect to PortableApps.com to retrieve portable apps. Please try again later. [InvalidFilePossibleNoConnectionOrFirewall]

Reconsider "mandatory-ness" of platform updates

Submitted by zoc on July 31, 2012 - 1:49pm

I'd like to suggest to relax the "mandatory-ness" (yeah, I know that's not a word) of platform updates.

My suggestion is clearly motivated by the desire to be able to downgrade from a buggy update (like the recent 10.1.1), or simply from an update that happens to suite my needs less well than the prior version - but without the penalty of being cut off from application updates like I would be now.

I am a software engineer and I believe I could contribute to design such a solution. If the developers are interested in a technical discussion, just point me to the right place for it.

Is there a way to disable the update check for a certain program?

Hello. I've been holding off on updating Firefox to version 14, because my favorite theme, Charamel, is not yet compatible with it (but I'm hoping it will be soon). Today, when I launched the platform & it checked for updates, I absent-mindedly clicked to have it install the updates, and I forgot to uncheck Firefox first. So, I just got done going back to Firefox 13.

Can't Install on Flash Drive

Submitted by Marie Whitehead on July 16, 2012 - 2:19am

I bought one of the pre-installed flash drives and as soon as I inserted it into my desktop it asked to update the platform which I said yes. Then it stalled during the install giving me error "Extract: error writing to file PortableAppsPlatform.exe." If I click ignore it gives me another error for the next file it is trying to install. I eventually gave up and reformatted the flash drive. Same thing happened when I try to install the platform again. So I tried it with a different drive- got same problems. The platform will install on my desktop as will the apps.
