Searching by keyboard produces weird characters

Submitted by thany on June 4, 2012 - 11:33am

If I open PA by hitting ctrl+alt+space and then typing "th" to highlight Thunderbird, it sometimes produces a chinese karacter in place of the "t".

It's not reproducible on demand, but it did happen multiple times today.

My Windows language is English, locale is Dutch, and keyboard is US-international. There are no East-Asian IME's installed on my system. In fact, Dutch+US-int is the only input installed. And I'm using a regular run-of-the-mill US+Euro keyboard.

Automatic Update of Beta Apps

Submitted by OLLI_S on June 3, 2012 - 7:31am

Hello,

I am using many Beta Apps from the Beta-Applications Page (https://portableapps.com/development/test).

Today I started MP3Tag and I received an update message form MP3Tag (MP3Tag told me that there is a new version is available).
So I checked just some of my beta apps and saw that many of them have been updated (like FreeFileSync, Screenshot Captor, Lazarus).

In the forum topics of many beta apps I asked to release the app as a official portable version (so they update automatically).
But nothing happened.

Will Pay For Feature: Custom Launcher

Submitted by gfinzer on June 2, 2012 - 7:26pm

I would pay $300 for a feature to allow custom launching of apps. Here is how it would work from the Portable Apps Menu:

1. On the Apps button there would be an option, Add Command Line App
2. Choose the icon, or it would default to some built in icon.
3. Choose the name to appear on the menu
4. Choose the exe location on the USB Drive
5. The item would be added to the menu

System Tray Icon Color Settable/Changeable?

Submitted by sehlat on June 2, 2012 - 2:01am

I need to be able to run two separate portable stacks off two different drives. It works, but the icons are identical and I have to use the mouseover to check which stack I'm invoking when switching tasks or adding another running program.

Is there any way to set/change the tray icon color, say, to match the scheme chosen for the launcher it's attached to?

Thank you.

Can't see Launcher after starting an app

Submitted by ZephireNZ on May 26, 2012 - 5:07am

Once I have launched an app from the PortableApps Menu, the launcher hides itself and I can't find it anymore.

It used to be available in the Alt-Tab menu but not the taskbar. Now, it's nowhere to be found.
I'm running XP on a school computer, so no/limited debugging possible.
Any idea what's happening? It's a real pain to open the apps using their actual .exe files, and when I do use this I have to eject it while it's still going; not a good practice.

Extra Features and ideas

Just Thought i would throw some ideas out

*Install

when installing there should be a check-box that says update multiple usb drives and let you install to more than one thumb for a quick update.

*Options

In the options and advanced there should be a show at all times check-box to make the menu stay open until minimized again.

*Ideas

There should also be a way to add users folders into the quick-launch menu.

Changing the size of the menu sounds good
