Win7 x64: Platform 10.0.1 slow start or stuck

Submitted by RadioMan57 on February 18, 2012 - 4:18pm

My 8GB USB stick contains some 300 portable apps, many of them from other sources than PortableApps.com. Started to use the platform recently because of the easy update process.

I have autostart and initial update check disabled. When launching Start.exe, I am observing very different responses:

(1) Progress bar moving slowly to anything between 10 and 50%, then the platform app seems to be stuck (Task Manager says "Not responding").

(2) Progress bar moving very slowly all the way to the end, then the installed apps are listed. This takes several minutes.

re-produce the bug:
1. close portableapps.com suite
2. open portableapps.com suite
3. type first letter of your desire app

expected:
the letter should to be shown at the top of the suite
all the apps that have that letter in there name, should appear below

result:
at the top of the suite found a square
non of the portable apps will shown.

------------
adding screend shots:
first English letter

  • it not happen only when you open the first time the suite.

There's an issue with the app installer/updater and how it uses temporary directories on C: to save the installers and run them. Is there a way to change what directory is used?

    with more detail:
-The updater/installer downloads all of the app files to a temp directory and then attempts to execute them. Not everyone has permission to execute out of temporary directory's so for those like me, the installer/updater simply fails.

    10.0.1.0 Menu and App Quirks

    Submitted by DADSGETNDOWN on February 16, 2012 - 12:31am

Okay, I just decided to go from 1.6.1 to 10.0.1.0. I renamed my install then installed just the platform/menu, then cut and pasted my apps minus the PA.com folder and the newer files included of course, plus cut and pasted docs and pics and stuff. So, I set up menu up to be categorized and I see a couple quirks and maybe have a question/suggestion or 2. First I notice that it reads Firefox as Mozilla but all the other apps read just like the their folder name.

[Fixed] Can't update or add new apps: File Write Error

    Submitted by gjdewitte on February 15, 2012 - 11:07pm

Using either my new PortableApps.com flash drive, or another flash drive on which I've loaded the PortableApps Platform, I get the following message when I try to update apps or add new apps:

"Unable to connect to PortableApps.com to retrieve portable apps. Please try again later. [File Write Error]"

This happens on both a 64-bit Win7 machine and a 32-bit XP machine.

PA.c Platform 10.0 Updater freezes taskbar when updating

    PortableApps.com Platform 10.0 :
Whenever I manually ask the Updater to search for updates my taskbar freezes. At the same time the PA.c startmenu also freezes. This lasts a long as it takes to search for updates. I can not imagine that this should happen normally.

Are you aware of this happening ?
Is a solution on the way ?
Is there something I can do to provide additional information ?

I am running Windows Vista x86

    Platform 10.0.1 will not install

    Submitted by don80449 on February 11, 2012 - 10:19pm

PortableApps Platform 10.0.1 will not install because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. What does that mean and how do I fix it?

A picture of the error message dialog box is here:

I have downloaded the Suite version 1.6.1 and it installed OK.

[Fixed] Portable Apps Update process needs a different User-Agent

    I'm using 10.0.1.

An update of one of my portable apps tripped one of our IDS signatures. The signature triggers on a user-agent string known to be used by various malware.

Abilities to install all addition languages when update/install using built-in app manager?

    Submitted by tiger2wander on February 3, 2012 - 3:36am

I've just changed language of Platform to another language and checked "use this language for all Portable apps" then tried to start VLC, gVIM app but language not change related to my new language.

I think it is caused by built-in app manager not select to install all "addition languages" when it install/update portable app from server.

I tried to download VLC app manual and then install it with addition languages then start it again, it works!
