Shortcut key (Windows P) has gone, how to get it back?

Submitted by erwino on February 3, 2010 - 5:44am

Hi there,
the previous version could get the menu shown when you pressed Windows key and P. The new version does not respond to that, I can't recall if this is something you can create yourself or is part and parcel of the platform? Does anyone knows how to restore this?
Thanks

Apps that run on multiple platforms

Submitted by qforce on January 31, 2010 - 10:43am

Hello,

I'm the admin of DocFetcher, a desktop-search app written in Java. Currently, we have a portable version which is capable of running on both Windows and Linux, provided that a Java Runtime is installed. On Windows, the program is launched with an Exe, on Linux with a shell script.

We'd like to make this portable version Portable Apps compatible. However, after having skimmed the docs, I have the impression that Portable Apps are generally Windows-only. Is this correct? And if so, are there any plans to support programs that run on multiple platforms, especially Java programs?

Categories for PAP 2.0?

Submitted by ComputerStriker on January 29, 2010 - 10:56pm

So, it's been almost two years(or maybe 3 years) since XRX posted his version of the PAM MOD with categories. Right now, I'm on the fence deciding to use the original platforms or use the mod menu. The categories is the only thing that is attracting me to the mod right now. When are we expected to get categories in PAP? In PAP 2.0? and specifically, how much longer(in months ,si vous plait)
Thanks

Support for .bat as applications

Submitted by beppegg on January 29, 2010 - 11:01am

Hi!!

I'd just wanted to know if the platform supports/will support .bat files as applications. For instance, I'm using a XMPP application named PSI that needs a particular enviroment variable to run portable, so I use a .bat file to set that variable before launching the app. Or I've to pass some parameters to a java program (javaw.exe -jar programName.jar --parameterToBePassed).

It would be great if I can make PortableApps Menu handle those kind of applications!

Thank you very much for all your help and hard work!

Microsoft Security Essentials causing menu to take forever to load

Submitted by Bruce Pascoe on January 29, 2010 - 10:01am

I'm not sure what the Platform is doing when it refreshes the app list, but for whatever reason when I have Microsoft Security Essentials (MS antivirus) running, it seems to take a long time to load the list. However, I don't notice this problem with ASuite, which loads just as quickly whether MSSE is turned on or off.

Documents folder name incompatible with Windows Mobile

Submitted by pizzaman on January 29, 2010 - 9:36am

I would like to point out a compatibility issue with my Windows Mobile PDA running WinMo 6.5

I use my PDA's drive mode (it becomes as a cardreader for it's microsd card, so it works as a usb flash drive). I have a lot of portable apps on it, which i use daily. This works perfectly, except for one thing: in Windows Mobile 6.5, the documents folder is called "My Documents" in stead of "Documents". So my pda it keeps on making the folder "My Documents" and subfolders like "My Music", "My Pictures" and "My Ringtones".

File extension association.

Hi

I am very new to PortableApps platform and just wana ask a basic thing, if I put portable apps suite including open office on my usb drive and then, I go and try to open a .doc file, it doesn't open in open office, it opens in default Microsoft Word installed on the system, or doesn't open at all if the system doesn't have MS Office installed.

Is there a way to associate doc to open office on thumb drive? Or would I have to launch OpenOffice Writer first and then open the file manually?

Thanks a lot.
