help please

Submitted by stteng on November 28, 2009 - 6:08am

I didn't realize that there was a Portable Apps suite until after I installed and customized my portable Firefox (with addons), GoodSync2Go, RoboForm2Go. What if I wanted to install Portable Apps suite especially with GUI but don't want to reinstall portable Firefox, GoodSync2Go, RoboForm2Go on my portable hard drive? Is that possible?

Thanks

"Windows Classic" theme for Platform 2.0b3

Submitted by tvierling on November 25, 2009 - 11:06am

Following the example of the Win7 theme plugin, here's one I call "Windows Classic". I am often using RDP sessions, so less colors and color effects is *always* a good thing for speed reasons. This theme is just that: flat and boring, but color-matched to the "Windows Classic" themes.

Find it here.

Released to the public domain, since it's so incredibly simple. Smile

Installing Portable Suite

Submitted by port_user on November 24, 2009 - 5:49pm

Can somebody comment on why "It's best to install it [portable suite] right to the root directory of your portable drive (X:\ where X is the drive letter).

In particular, I installed the suite not on a stick but in a separate (so non-root) folder/directory of the D\ hard drive partition.

Questions:
First, can I expect the suite behave differently when installed on a HD rather than a USB stick?

Second, does it make a difference whether the suite is installed in the root of HD partition or in its sub-directory/folder? Any side-effects?

Thanks.

SSL protocol problem

Submitted by jassieone on November 20, 2009 - 7:14pm

Downloaded Portableapps Suite early this week. Everything worked just fine. I left it a couple of days and when I tried again to use Mozilla a security message appeared and I found that I couldn't access sites with SSL encryption. I have restarted, removed excess baggage from my flash drive, re-downloaded PA Suite - to no avail. Any clues?

Help Severe Trojan Alert! Microsoft Security Essentials detected PWS:Win32/Ldpinch.gen

PortableAapps.com Platform version: 2.0 beta 1
As I had started the PortableApps.com Platform, the Microsoft Security Essentials froze the application and alerted me of a severe trojan. I don't know why but I didn't expect the PortableApps Platform could be performing trojan style commands and be a serious issue?

I hope someone here could help! I have copied and pasted the details of the trojan: PWS:Win32/Ldpinch.gen

Change paths to "Music", "Pictures" and "Videos" folders?

Submitted by nottRobin on November 14, 2009 - 11:57pm

Hi.

Would it be possible, in a future release of PortableApps.com platform, to add an option into the PortableAppsMenu.ini file to specify where the "Music" etc links in the menu should point?

Because, I don't like having "Music" and "Videos" inside my "Documents" folder. I'd rather have them side by side in the root of the drive - similar to how Windows Vista and 7 do it. So it would be really useful for me if I could specify the paths to these folders.

Cheers,
Robin.

installing alternate applications on the platform

Submitted by darkness2fall on November 14, 2009 - 3:01am

I have been installing non portable apps to be operated on flash drives for over a year. so using what i already know,i installed video games, browsers, and even citrix wire! So after i installed them, the platform automatically places icons for the new apps installed into the platform memory. From the platform, you can access and operate them like you can with the other apps. No need to creat custom short cuts or anything because the platform does it for you. How does one go about installing alternate apps?

Safely Removing USB Stick

Submitted by port_user on November 12, 2009 - 4:55pm

Just installed. Great idea. However, I cannot remove the memory stick. It's constantly in use even after all portable applications are closed. The process portappl remains active (in task manager). When I finally killed the process and tried to close the stick, OS crashed. Any suggestions on removing the USB? Thanks.
