Backup Utility Required Files (not including Menu)

Submitted by myaccount on May 24, 2010 - 8:57pm

Long story short, I got up the enthusiasm to organise my files, installs, links, and everything, so I am now using ASuite as my application manager. I think I used 7zip to extract the PortableApps.com Suite to /PortableApps/System/PortableApps.com/ where I link solely to the backup utility.

When only using the backup utility, are there many redundant files in the App files, or can I only delete the PortableAppsPlatform.exe? I know its not a lot of physical space being freed but it is "cleaner" to me, which is what I want.

Weird AutoRun problem...

Well, for some reason, when I use my flash drive on some computers, my autorun disappears, completely. When I try to make a new one, and save it as autorun.inf on the root directory of the drive, it says it can't save because it's a read-only file... It doesn't appear on the drive, and doesn't even show up when I enable viewing of hidden and system files.. When I try to open it using windows explorer, it opens it, but it's encoded with a bunch of weird unicode characters that don't register.. I can't seem to delete the file using any means, including the command prompt...

Alt-Tab - Portable Apps Launcher

Submitted by gcore on May 5, 2010 - 1:14pm

I'm a teacher who uses the PortableApps suite at my school. However, the schoolboard has disabled the start menu, task bar, and numerous other features.

I access the portable apps exe by opening it through Internet Explorer's file>open menu. After opening the launcher, I must reopen it again by going through explorer each time I want to open a new application because I am unable to open it through the disabled task bar.

Is there a way that I can customize the launcher to stay open so that I can use alt-tab to switch to it?

launchy-like interface for platform

Submitted by Bob Bagwill on May 4, 2010 - 8:32am

I would like a launchy-like interface for the PortableApps platform. It could be launchy itself or a work-alike. I would like to be able to search/open/launch docs/apps with it, but also be able to manage the platform itself, i.e. update/backup/delete etc.

As soon as you have more than a menu or two of options or commands, a progressive search interface becomes more efficient, IMHO.

Portable Apps Themes installation problem

Submitted by mcf57 on April 28, 2010 - 9:52am

I must be missing & overlooking this somehow, but how do you add the "theme" option to the Portable apps option area? I have a portable apps installation that has been installed & running at work for some time that has this option. But when I downloaded & install a new version of portable apps to put on a flash drive, it doesn't seem to have this "theme" option. What am I doing wrong here? I downloaded the basic platform (2MB). Do I maybe need to download either the 'Suite Light' or 'Suite Standard' editions in order to get the theme option to appear?

sort the apps

Hi,

A few Days ago I installed the newest platform ob P-apps. One of the nice new-features are, the Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird are on the tops. Than there is an horizontal bar, and the other programs are based on the alphabet are running.

Can I sort the programs on my own? Fore example the office on top, and the games on the bottom?

Problem probably related due to virus attack

Submitted by alist1 on April 15, 2010 - 2:41pm

How do i access PortableApps Platform and Portable Apps if choosing any of them via the platform or manually results in an "open with" menu?

This might have to do with me recently being attacked by awe.exe, an annoying fake virus scanner which actualli restricted my access to the internet on a computer browser and caused Portable Mozilla Firefox to crash every time i loaded it up.
