portableapps won't work on the pc I used to install them...

Submitted by ackbar11 on August 31, 2008 - 7:10pm

I have two computers and the one I used to install portableapps to my flash drive refuses to run portableapps. On my other computer I could just use the startportableapps program and it created the thing in the system tray. However when I try that on the original computer it won't start in the system tray...

Is this normal or is there a setting that needs to be changed?

Removing from menu, without deleting files.

Submitted by tc93 on August 29, 2008 - 12:23pm

I have installed Spybot S&D into my menu by adding it into the PortableApps folder. However, this program is composed of more than one executable, including an uninstall file.

I could delete these, but they are crucial to the program.

Is it possible to remove them from the menu without deleting them? I just want the main app on the menu, which can open all the other .exe's through its GUI.

Thanks for your help (if you *can* help)

U3 Launchpad - is it needed ?

Submitted by magoood on August 29, 2008 - 8:36am

Hi all and first, I want to apologize if this is question has been asked before but searching the forum did not answer my question exactly.
I wanted to ask if I can uninstall the Sandisk U3 launchpad from my "Intuix 2 GB U3 drive" while still having the U3 functionality which I want of course since I installed the portableapps launchpad and I like it much more than the dumb U3 launch pad which does not many options IMO regarding managing shortcuts of apps...etc

Firefox 3, Portable Edition Question

Submitted by smith_fan on August 25, 2008 - 5:33pm

I am interested in learning the optimum procedure for upgrading a U3-based installation of Firefox 2, Portable Edition (v2.0.0.16). I want to begin using Firefox 3, Portable Edition (v3.0.1), but am concerned because I read on a Mozilla site somewhere that they recommend using a fresh, v3-only profile when switching to version 3 because of some issue that Firefox 3 tends to have with importing Firefox 2 profiles. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Some questions

I'm new here so plz dont be mean. Anyways I just got myself a SanDisk Cruzer Titanium Plus with U3, but I really dont like U3 so I'm trying PAc. Here are some questions.

1) I see that U3 and PAc makes it easy to manage your portable apps, but is there anything wrong with just installing an program directly onto your flash drive? That's what I've always done on my old drive and there's been no problems.

2) Going off of question 1, when I install a program without using PAc, is there any way to make a shortcut of it and put it in the PAc Menu?

Portableapps Menu Suggestions

I am using PortableApps with the PortableAppsMenuMod34 PaTChed.

Several of the features should seriously be considered for the "official" menu.

I cannot live without categories and I find the execute on start and exit very convenient.

I would also like a button on the menu to "refresh menus" similar to the eject button.

Howdy

I have been running portable apps on my USB drive for some time now. This afternoon I tried to plug in the drive and my antivirus software popped up saying the followning:

The Win32/FakeAv.CX was detected in F:\...STARTPORTAB.... Machine: FM_, User:_. File Status: File was cured; system cure performed.

It removed startportableapps.exe from my USB drive. I went to the PA website and tried to download it again and once again got the following message once the installer started to download:

Password Portected PortableApps Menu?

Submitted by Henry_117 on August 19, 2008 - 9:39pm

I'm sorry if I'm repeating an FAQ, but is there any way to make my PortableApp flash drive password protected like the U3 drives by SanDisk? Are there any free encryption programs that can password protect or encrypt/decrypt my entire 4 GB flash drive without the need for administrator privileges BEFORE the PortableApps Menu starts up when I insert it into any Windows computer?
