No Luck Running PortableApps Menu Under Vista

Submitted by martinw on July 24, 2007 - 1:38pm

Hi,

From reading here I know PortableApps menu is supposed to be fine under Vista - but I'm having no luck at all. All appeared to install OK.

When I launch StartPortableApps.exe from my G: drive it just gives the 'nice but useless' Vista crash message ("Start PortableApps Has Stopped Working" with close program button). Event Viewer gives little to go on:-

Add item to PAM menu to launch EXE?

Submitted by nightfire117 on July 22, 2007 - 10:07pm

Is there a program that can be added to the PAM menu and launch an EXE? I tried PortaLaunch but it doesn't seem to be working. The splash comes up for a short while, less than a tenth of a second I'd say, and it crashes without launching my app.

I'm wondering if I'm doing this right. I have a directory under Apps called {foobar2000} and then I'm trying to launch the foobar2000.exe but to no avail.

Example, launching Foobar2000

; See Other\PortaLaunchSource\Docs\inisettings.txt

[PAL]
ProgramName={foobar2000}
ProgramDir=.\App\{foobar2000}

Third party exeopens wrong?

Submitted by M60Berserker on July 21, 2007 - 6:24pm

I dont really have much knowledge about this but heres the problem.

I wanted to put some games in the menu, and one of my favorite games is the freeware game called little fighter 2...

I copied it to the usb drive\portableapps\LF2

I doubleclicked the exe and the game worked perfectly... BUT when opened from the Menu the game comes with an error... Do you know if i can solve this problem in any way?

Video

This isn't much but i just wanted to comment on the PortableApps menu and folders. All the folders in the Documents folder are in the plural tense except the video folder. Don't you think video should be plural too? This isn't a big deal but i was just wondering if anyone else noticed or cares.

Suite feature

Submitted by ProTeuS on July 13, 2007 - 8:02am

Hi,

Since I have most of the portable applications found here at portableapps.com it's getting pretty messy.

So if there could be an option to group selected applications under a specific category that would be great!

Don't you think?

Folder Icon's Disappearing

Submitted by Orius on July 12, 2007 - 10:44am

I use Synctoy as a way to backup my portable drive (I simply back up the entire drive so I don't have to reinstall each program as well as any data I have on the drive). So yesterday I decided to test out my backup. I made a backup (using echo mode) then proceded to format the drive and lastly copy and pasting all of the files and folders from the backed up folder to my drive.

Feature Request - sub-menus for programs

Submitted by QuaCKeReD on July 3, 2007 - 7:35am

I have looked and searched, but cannot find anyone else requesting this, so....

How about a feature to be able to 'categorise' the portable apps into sub-menus (as PStart can do). At present I run over 40 apps from my thumb drive and it would be so nice to be able to have sub-menus for Graphics progs, SQL progs, Viewer progs, AntiVirus progs, etc, etc

Development Team?

2 questions, one for John, the other for everyone.

Nummer Eins:
How about putting a development team with access to the Subversion repository to work together on the next version of the menu?

Nummer Zwei:
If said team was put together, who would volunteer to be on it?
