Toucan

there are no incremental differential files for differential Backup

Submitted by gary_gabriel on April 1, 2020 - 2:57pm

Hi

Toucan has served well in the past and thanks for the update. However probably since this update there is a bug in the Differential Backup. Assuming that the past behavior that changed files are backed up up in an archive named after the date and time is current.

Maybe Toucan or some other Windows or Linux backup software can do this? Syncing two drives offline once a month.

So I haven't found the clear answer in Toucan's documentation (where is it at all? never mind, I understand not all software projects place as much emphasis on their documentation as their code as some) to this functionality. Here's what I'm trying to accomplish: I backup my stuff on two external drives, A and B. I store one of the drives off site, at a friend of family member living separately.

Toucan 3.1.7 seems to remove directories unexpectedly

Submitted by tbuehlmann on November 2, 2019 - 5:19am

I have been using sync for years to copy data off my computer onto an external drive. This worked fine and would copy files over if they were new ore more recently modified at the source (and not change the target in any other way.)

With the update to Toucan 3.1.7 I have a lot of messages indicating my target directories had been removed (which as per help should just not happen in synch mode.)

True bi-directional sync in Equalise, deleting files that were deleted after last sync

Submitted by M4v3r1ck on January 29, 2019 - 1:31pm

I've dug around in the forums, and this has been a "planned change", as far back as V2.1 beta, but apparently it still hasn't been implemented. It's the only issue I have with using it as "sync" software. Using the Equalize option, if I have folders S and D, with files A and B (in any combination) and then sync, both S and D will have both A and B. Great. HOWEVER, if I delete A from either S or D, then sync again, A is put back in the folder from which it was deleted. How can I make that NOT happen? I want to retain all other behavior of the "Equalise" function.

Skip compressing already compressed files

Submitted by eltaho on January 15, 2019 - 7:07am

Hi guys. Is there any possibility to skip compressing already compressed files and just add them to the archive.

For example, I backup a drive that also contains already compressed files/installation files. In my opinion it's time/resource consuming to compress the files that is already been compressed. I want to mask to skip only compressing *.zip files but still add them to the backup file.

Thanks in advance.

Toucan 3.1.6 released

Submitted by alt on September 2, 2018 - 11:55am

I've just posted the 3.1.6 on GitHub for those who want to jump onto the new version right away.

https://github.com/PortableApps/Toucan/releases/tag/3.1.6

There is a couple of bugfixes, 7-Zip version update and "Do Not Log Skipped Files" option for Sync (as requested on the forum earlier) in the box. I'll give it a week and change the status to "Release".
