I have been using sync for years to copy data off my computer onto an external drive. This worked fine and would copy files over if they were new ore more recently modified at the source (and not change the target in any other way.)
With the update to Toucan 3.1.7 I have a lot of messages indicating my target directories had been removed (which as per help should just not happen in synch mode.)
Bugfix release of Toucan is posted on GitHub: https://github.com/PortableApps/Toucan/releases/tag/3.1.7.1
Two main changes are fix for recursive deletion during sync (GH issue #22: https://github.com/PortableApps/Toucan/issues/22) and 7-Zip update to version 19.00.
Hello,
I am using Toucan on Win7, toucan in german language.
I made some tests to check, if toucan can meet my requirements for backup/mirroring.
I found the following issue:
As i see toucan cant start as service. How i can start it in Windows at startup system? How works tasks in toucan by scheduler, it works from toucan or it place jobs in Windows Scheduler? Does toucan support automaticly sending mail notification after jobs done?
I've dug around in the forums, and this has been a "planned change", as far back as V2.1 beta, but apparently it still hasn't been implemented. It's the only issue I have with using it as "sync" software. Using the Equalize option, if I have folders S and D, with files A and B (in any combination) and then sync, both S and D will have both A and B. Great. HOWEVER, if I delete A from either S or D, then sync again, A is put back in the folder from which it was deleted. How can I make that NOT happen? I want to retain all other behavior of the "Equalise" function.
Hi guys. Is there any possibility to skip compressing already compressed files and just add them to the archive.
For example, I backup a drive that also contains already compressed files/installation files. In my opinion it's time/resource consuming to compress the files that is already been compressed. I want to mask to skip only compressing *.zip files but still add them to the backup file.
Thanks in advance.
I've just posted the 3.1.6 on GitHub for those who want to jump onto the new version right away.
https://github.com/PortableApps/Toucan/releases/tag/3.1.6
There is a couple of bugfixes, 7-Zip version update and "Do Not Log Skipped Files" option for Sync (as requested on the forum earlier) in the box. I'll give it a week and change the status to "Release".
Hi,
I would like to use Toucan 3.1 in the office and yesterday I wanted to create a full backup (about 30 GByte data in a file structure on Windows 10. My aim is first to make a full backup and then to make differential backups.
Every time during the compressing process Toucan aborts with a System Error. I habe attached a log file. The last file that is mentioned in the log immediately at the system error is not currpted. I have checked it.
My question: A simple bug or do I have to obey any restrictions (e .g. supported file types)?
Best regards veverl
I've installed Toucan on a 1 TB portable USB drive. It works great on my Windows 10 home computer but when I try to synch files with my work computer I get the following message:
*** Caught unhandled unknown exception; terminating
And that's it. Is it not possible to synch files on my work computer? Yes, there are company restrictions, for example we are not allowed to install software without IT intervention, which is why I have it installed on a USB drive rather than on the computer.
