Cannot run multiple pre-release Toucan sessions from the command line

With the production release of Toucan and with earlier builds of the pre-release Toucan it was possible to run multiple sessions of Toucan from the command line. This made using the command line really handy for Scheduled Task back ups and syncing of multiple jobs/locations.

However after build 6 of pre-release the ability to run multiple command sessions of Toucan has been restricted. I assume this change was made because of this thread: https://portableapps.com/node/29326

Tucan CRASH

Also:
Can't delete items from Rules if just one side of a line is selected. I have to select (click/hold/drag) type and rule (full line) then click the "-" to remove.

Backup with password and test problem

Submitted by NigelLGH on May 2, 2012 - 9:25am

Hi,
I have just started to use Toucan and when I try to do a 7-zip complete backup with password and test after creation, Toucan hangs after it has created the archive and does not do the test.

I found ( after an hours wait!) that by killing the 7zip process in windows task manager it finished the task with the following text in the end of the progress window:

Compressing Budget\Home_Budget20120501.xlsm
Compressing Budget\MASTER_20120403.xlsm

Everything is Ok

3.1.0 Pre-Release - Sync Mirror delete from destination not working

Submitted by uk_dave on April 25, 2012 - 6:59am

It appears that the Sync Mirror delete from destination is not working on on the 3.1.0 Pre-Release -- at least on my systems. I have tested using both pre-release build 6 and 11 and get the same results.

Sync Function options:

Mirror

File Checks options:

File size
Modified time
Short Comparison

Other options:

Retain Timestamps
Retain Attributes
Ignore Read-Only
Use Recycle Bin

Source:

C:\Test\a.txt
C:\Test\b.txt

Destination:

E:\Test

On initial first run in my destination location as expected I get both the a.txt and b.txt files.

Toucan 3.0.4 - Error accessing networked drives, files are deleted !!!

Submitted by jahmanjah on April 12, 2012 - 7:25pm

Hello!

When Sync/Mirroring from a networked drive, files are not fond on the source network drive and thus are deleted on the target drive! Yikes!

This is very bad!

I know I can map a networked drive and then it will work, but that's not the point: If Toucan won't work with a networkwed drive, then selecting networked drives (without mapping) should be disabled (because Toucan will trash target files at an incredibly high speed.)

Cheers,

- jahman.

sync conflicts -- both files are changed

Submitted by johnviku on April 12, 2012 - 12:18pm

i am familiar with a problem with syncing that i encountered in syncing i have had to do myself in the past.

Sorry if the answer to this question is already somewhere, but i couldnt find it. I searched for "sync conflict" and "both changed"

Let me give you two related scenarios.

1. file.txt is synced. on local c: disk and a shared backup drive. I and another person are on two different computers. I am editing my local copy, and he is editing the copy on the shared drive. What happens.

Differential mirroring?

Submitted by vinieux on March 19, 2012 - 8:37am

I like to keep my portable apps on my PC, as well as on my pendrive.

This way I can use them in day to day work, as well as when I am on the move and don't have my computer with me.

This obviously means I need a robust synch program to keep me up to date.

My problem is this. When I do a mirror synch, Toucan doesn't do a differential mirror - it seems to copy every file overwriting the destination directory. This wastes a lot of time.

tmp files...delete?

Submitted by jonalb on March 12, 2012 - 12:39pm

I never used Toucan before and after I ran it the first time (to my K: drive) I have a folder K:toucan projects backup with one file in it called BaseFile.7z. In addition, in the root dir I have 4 separate files. BaseFile.7z.tmp, BaseFile.7z.tmp1, BaseFile.zip.tmp, BaseFile.zip.tmp1.
Are these temp files that can safely tossed out?
Thanks

Automated Secure Backups

Submitted by phrekus on February 7, 2012 - 4:06pm

I have read the forums front to back and have not been able to fine a way to create an automated secure backup using toucan. I am very new to LUA and not familiar with the syntax. I am looking to run two fully automated scheduled encrypted backups on opposite days. If anyone can provide some sample scripts or hints that would be awesome.
