Database Browser

Submitted by CuPo on April 4, 2022 - 5:43am

I have a persistent problem installing/upgrading Database Browser. It is cancelled with this message (translated from German):

"The downloaded file Database Browser is invalid and cannot be installed. Maybe the cause is an uncomplete download or a network problem. Please start the upgrade once again."

There is no problem with any other Portable App. I have no idea, what network problem could be adressed.

WinMerge settings can now be stored in an INI file

Submitted by nnewton on March 17, 2022 - 6:14am

As of version 2.16.13, WinMerge now has support for settings stored in an INI file:

https://winmerge.org/docs/changelog.php?lang=en#winmerge-21613---2021-06-22
https://github.com/WinMerge/winmerge/issues/248

While, by default, it looks for an INI file next to the WinMergeU.exe file, you can also specify the INI file to use via command line:

HWINFO Malware detected in latest version ?

Submitted by myster_fr on February 28, 2022 - 5:59am

Hello,

I got prompted to update HWInfo by the PortableApps Platform app, and proceeded.
Right after the upgrade, my Sophos Endpoint Agent started shouting about a malware in the files.

I know there can be false positives, but given HWInfo was already "installed" for quite a while on my computer, I'm surprised it suddently triggered AV protection.

FYI, the reported malware is Mal/hckPk-A .

Might be a false positive, thought it worth being reported given the AV behaviour change with the new version.

Update busted.

(How's that for a short sweet summary? Biggrin )

Every other update succeeds, but TCPview says that the download is bad. Win7 64x (but I could try it from Linux) PortableApps installed on a dedicated Gorilla Stick.

jPortable issue

Submitted by cantspell on January 30, 2022 - 7:54pm

Whenever I open JavaPortableLauncher and select a JAR file to run an error pops up saying:

jPortable Launcher cannot be started. You may wish to re-install to fix this issue. (ERROR: jPortable/jdkPortable/OpenJDK could not be found)

Each time I reinstall this the same error occurs, the jPortable folder is located in C:\Users\PC\AppData\JavaPortableLauncher.

Process Monitor 3.87 - doesn't work on Win7 (request on Legacy version)

Submitted by AbsolutelyRandom on January 2, 2022 - 11:38pm

The latest version of Process Monitor doesn't work on Windows 7 anymore. Support by the application for Win7 was dropped a few versions ago but the current one doesn't work at all by displaying: "Unable to load Process Monitor device driver". Any chance for a legacy version which would be compatible with Windows 7?
