utorrent creates registry entry, tries to run on restart

Submitted by JKEngineer on June 17, 2019 - 9:09am

I seldom use utorrent, but the last two times I did, it created a registry entry. In addition, on a restart of the machine (Win 7 Pro) I get a dialog box asking if it's ok for utorrent to make changes to my machine. (I say no.)

In msconfig>startup I see and disable the utorrent item. When I did so the second time, it was also showing the previous item (disabled). Prior to posting this, I went back into msconfig and see only the most recent one listed.

updating to opera portable Version:60.0.3255.55 can potentially result in dataloss

Submitted by Arawn-Annwn on May 20, 2019 - 10:15am

I let opera portable update today. It wiped out my saved session, bookmarks, password, extensions, themes..everything.Set me back to light mode.

So watch out if you aren't using the sync feature. Dummy me, I didn't back up before updating and was not signed in during my last session so I lost a few things.

I've seen this happen with other chromium based browsers updating as well, anyone have any idea why this occasionally happens?

Utorrent Search Blocked ?

Submitted by DADSGETNDOWN on May 16, 2019 - 5:39am

Installed latest uTorrent, tried different searches, it fires up my browser, but gets a timed out or something message, Are the sesrch sites wrong addresses or my USP blocking it ? Tried QbitTorrent ir what ever it is too, but I guess it needs Python to search, which I don't have, don't want, can't find portable version and didn't find that info in amy help or site for it. Uninstalled it.

[Fixed] Portable Chrome suddenly "managed by your organization"

Submitted by caspian915 on May 14, 2019 - 7:11pm

Just in the last day or two our IT department has rolled out a new intranet for the organization (public library system) and all of the Windows based installations of Chrome have defaulted to the intranet home page at startup. That's all well and good; however, I use portable chrome on a USB drive specifically to keep my data from getting all mixed up with the Windows instance of chrome, and now my personal portable instance of chrome is ALSO getting the "managed by your organization" limitations, specifically:

PopMan

Submitted by CraigS on May 1, 2019 - 10:36pm

I have been trying to use PopMan as a simple email client. It seems to work fine for 2 email accounts but not for a third. The account details are identical to those that work in another client. But with PopMan an attempt to update the account yields no response, No error message. Nothing. Does anyone have any suggestion of what might be wrong or what I might try to figure out the problem? I have tried increasing the time out to no effect. I have no other ideas.
