Google Chrome Portable Relative Download Directory Preference

Submitted by poltomb on April 24, 2012 - 10:12am

So when playing with chrome portable, I noticed that it used my current user directory for downloads. While this may be ok for some, this was not a reasonable option for me. I use portable apps from the hard disk of a virtual machine for work. What I like about portable apps is how it is a complete package, without the need for installation (aside from maybe copying a folder). So, for all of you who want to make chrome portable have a relative download directory (relative to the installation path), here it is.

Pidgin: "The desitation folder you selected is invalid" error when attempting to upgrade or install an app

Submitted by mekki on April 11, 2012 - 3:05pm

When attempting to update my Pidgin Portable install to 2.10.3 from 2.10.2, I attempt to install it over the old install (as I've done the last 10 or so times I've updated). However, when I select the install folder, C:\Program Files (x86)\PortableApps\PidginPortable\ and click install, I receive the error:

"The destination folder you selected is invalid. Please choose a valid folder. [C:\Program Files (x86)]"

"Pidgin must close..."

I'm getting the dread MS error, "Pidgin has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" every time I try to open the program. Does anybody else have this problem? Does it have to do with something our IT Police have done to my computer? I'm running version 2.10.2 from my thumb-drive. Thanks in advance.

PuTTY Portable Extra Tools

I needed extra tools to run PuTTY portable with Emacs, so I packaged many of the extra tools as add-ons to PuTTY portable

The source is located at:

The installer is here:

[Closed] FileZilla: log file left behind in portable drive's root

Submitted by skroslak on November 1, 2011 - 5:35am

hi guys,

did you ever noticed that there is a log file log.txt always created when filezilla operates? it is left behind when filezilla closes in portable drive's root folder. ex. I have P:\portableApps\filezillaPortable. When I execute it, do something, close it, there is P:\log.txt file created. I like to have a log, but it should remain in app's folder, not in root..

cheers,
Sam
