Offline standalone "alternative" installation of Portable Chrome

Submitted by Hans Henderson on June 4, 2013 - 6:02am

The PortableApps Chrome installer by default requires a robust Internet connection to download the actual binaries from google.com.

It used to be the case that if you had the "alternative" standalone installer EXE - don't remember if it was the system-wide or the per-user version - in the same folder as the PA.com installer, the latter would automagically detect the former and go ahead and install even if there were no connection to the Internet available.

Is this functionality is no longer possible?

[Fixed] FileZilla Portable 3.7.0.2 leaves regkey & file

Submitted by prapper on May 31, 2013 - 8:08am

I think the SshHostKeys are now stored in HKCU\Software\SimonTatham\PuTTY rather than HKCU\Software\FileZillaPo\PuTTY\SshHostKeys & if the connection dialog is cancelled (without accepting the keys) then the file %LOCALAPPDATA%\PUTTY.RND is left behind.

chrome not saving passwords

Submitted by gusaus173 on May 29, 2013 - 5:13am

Chrome on my USB stick does not seem to be saving pass words for the sites where I need to. The box is ticked under advanced settings to save the passwords for site.

I wonder if it is saving the passwords to the chrome on C drive and not the USB stick. if so how do I get the passwords saved to the USB stick

filezilla portable version 3.6.0.2

Submitted by bkjr on May 9, 2013 - 12:28pm

Just downloaded and starting using the portable version of FileZilla client.
So far great stuff, but today ran into one problem that I researched , found one solution for, but seems not to solve the problem for me.

I have one site that does auto backup , file names as such...
" .backup.2013-05-04-23-01-12.zip " .
or
" site name.random-suffix "

On my old fpt client, I can see all the files, but with FileZilla I can't = can only see the .htaccess file.

I tried the Menu>Server>(checked)Force Showing Hidden Files

Still can't see them.

Need to add a WINDOWS ENVIRONMENT VARIABEL in PIDGIN

Submitted by XSLord on April 26, 2013 - 6:25am

Hi,

I need to to add the following (Windows) ENVIRONMENT VARIABLE:

NSS_SSL_CBC_RANDOM_IV=0

Before Pidgin is started, this will make it possible to use the SIPE plugin, which lets Pidgin also connect to LYNC/Office Communicator.

If you want to read more about this, then check the following link:
http://sourceforge.net/p/sipe/wiki/Frequently%20Asked%20Questions/

I have already tested this with a normal installation, and indeed, this variable makes all difference!

So my question is there someway that this kan be done in the "installer.ini" or somewhere else.

Moving from PuttyPortable to KiTTYPortable

Submitted by barbudor on March 17, 2013 - 4:13pm

Hello,

I am considering moving from PuttyPortable to KiTTY Portable.

While I can find some hints on KiTTY web site to move from standard PuTTY to KiTTY, I am unsure this applies to KiTTY Portable.

Also, is it possible to integrate KiTTY Portable with WinSCP Portable ?

Thanks for your help.

Pidgin: SIPE plugin for Lync / Office Communicator?

Submitted by kmelch on March 6, 2013 - 12:44pm

Hi All,

First post here, but been using these apps for years. LOVE EM.

So, I've read quite a bit about installing the SIPE plugin to allow Pidgin to work with a MS Lync Server. Is this possible with Pidgin Portable? Has anyone done this? I, of course, don't want to "install" anything, and can't seem to get the Office Communicator option to show up just by dropping dlls into the app folder as directed here:

Miranda: "Did not close properly..." likely related to hibernating and starting another computer?

Submitted by SimonT on January 19, 2013 - 2:46pm

I store my PortableApps content on my thumb drive and in my Dropbox (SkyDrive's not efficient enough for this) folder. The below applies to using it with Dropbox on personal devices.

I don't have the time to thoroughly test this out, but I think I'm getting the "Did not close properly..." message upon opening Miranda IM Portable on my desktop computer, after hibernating (i.e. not allowing Miranda to set some sort of flag for proper exit) the laptop. Is this a known issue? Is there a way to circumvent this problem, other than installing a copy of Miranda on the desktop?

Chrome Portable NPAPI Flash plugin?

Submitted by Lost1 on January 6, 2013 - 12:01am

Hello,

is it possible to include the NPAPI Flash plugin somehow to Chrome Portable so that it will be used instead of the build-in PPAPI plugin?

The PPAPI isn't compatible with Adobe Connect's Add-In and I'd like to use the NPAPI plugin even if Flash isn't locally installed.

When Flash is installed I can use this guide:
