PuTTY: Facebook working partially, & intermittently via SSH tunnel

Submitted by dusf on October 19, 2010 - 5:56pm

There is a firewall at my office blocking Gmail, Facebook, Youtube, no doubt some other sites, and any URL with the word proxy in it.

To try and circumvent this I connect with PuTTY using the office proxy on port 8080 to my Ubuntu 10.04's OpenSSH server running at home on port 8080.

Pidgin Portable functions differently than regular Pidgin?

Submitted by htismaqe on October 6, 2010 - 7:33pm

I have been using Pidgin Portable for a long time. Recently, I setup my wife with a USB Key running Appetizer/PortableApps so she could take her apps to different PCs in the house.

Tonight while messaging her, she was complaining that some of my messages would show up in one window, while some in were showing up in a separate chat window. I had her setup for single-window, tabbed interface so I was confused.

Google Chrome does not work

Submitted by rucksman007 on September 17, 2010 - 4:17am

I tried almost any of the Google Chrome releases from Portableapps, but none of them works.

If I do the installation to the root directory of a Hard drive, it works. But as soon as I change the default directory (GoogleChromePortable) or try to install ist into a subdirectory (c:\programme) it does not work. Double clicking on GoogleChromePortable.exe results in showing the hourglass for a fraction of a second and then nothing happens. There is also no "dead" process visible in the task manager.

Any idea? Thanks for helping....

Twitter makes Pidgin Portable fail - possibly it is the new Twitter 0auth

Submitted by richardginn on September 10, 2010 - 11:39am

Editing out the Twitter entries in [drive]:\PidginPortable\Data\settings\.purple
prefs.xml and blist.xml makes it work again.

This fail happened on the same day that Twitter started using the 0auth login scheme, so maybe there's a connection.

Pidgin: Logs Deleted with new install (Ouch!!!)

Submitted by rgarriso on September 2, 2010 - 6:34pm

Hi All,

I just recently updated my 1.6 version of PA with the new 2.0Beta5. When I started Pidgin...none of my accounts (over 10) were there...and ALL of my logs (about 5 years worth) were all gone. I'm clear that there is no way to get them back...but I wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem? I also wanted to know if it's now good practice to backup all Pidgin Accounts and logs BEFORE doing an upgrade.

Any guidance at all would be welcome.

Thanks All.

Miranda: saving settings bug

if you are using the disable splash screen option / or the .ini settings file at all(i think) it will not write any newly changed settings. ie: background image, font settings etc...

i think this could also be related to plugins not working as well.... havent tested. but i remember trying to install plugins and some were not working.

ive traced my problems back to the point where i went to use the settings ini and thats when it all started. temporarily moved out the ini file and tested, program started saving settings again.

love to help a good product.
thank you
