Pidgin: block characters in messages from iChat

Submitted by bebopblues on April 22, 2008 - 7:55pm

all of a sudden I'm getting block (□ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □) characters in all messages from iChat clients. I updated to the latest pidgin portable but it is still not fixed. It only affects messages from iChat (thru Aim and bonjour). Messages from normal AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and ICQ are not affected. If I highlight the block characters and paste it in another app like notepad, then the characters appear as normal words. I open the message log in pidgin and it shows block characters also. But if I open the log file in the pidgin directory, then it is normal.

Pidgin v2.4.1 keeps crashing

Submitted by Comage on April 13, 2008 - 11:59pm

OK, so I tried the newest version after deleting my previous version of Pidgin portable.

1. Log in to my MSN account, Pidgin crashes with error on icm32.dll.
Tried restarting Pidgin, it starts up correctly.

2. Was chatting halfway with 3 people in my list, and I used Ctrl-Tab to toggle between the 3 chat windows. Pressed Ctrl-tab on one ocassion, and it crashed with an error on icm32.dll.

Pidgin not remembering accounts

Submitted by Valexenium on April 12, 2008 - 1:15pm

For some odd reason, every time I close the application and launch it again, none of my accounts are there. I'm running it off a flash drive and the host is Windows XP. I have not moved any of the files around since downloading the application. It is currently saved to F:\IRC\Unreal3.2\doc\technical\ \Pidgin\Sauce\PidginPortable and I run it from F:\IRC\Unreal3.2\doc\technical\ \Pidgin\Sauce\PidginPortable\PidginPortable.exe. Some help would be nice.

Sincerely,
Valexenium Nellaf

FileZilla: Converting site manager information

Submitted by 3ali on April 11, 2008 - 4:47pm

hello,
i have just downloaded the latest version of FileZilla (3.0.9.1), i user the version 2.2.32 for a long time, and i have stored too many informations in the site manager.
I thought to make some script to convert the old xml file the new format, but the new portable version stores the passwords in a clear format, the old version user an md5 hash i think it's not clear, (more secure for me, i hope the they include the option in new versions).

so if you have any ideas about how to convert such file, you're welcome.

thinks for reading.

FileZilla: Upgrade from V2 to V3 did not make old settings available

Submitted by camphill on April 6, 2008 - 11:10am

I upgraded to V3 today from V2. My old settings were *supposed* to be available in an "old" folder that I could then import. This folder apparently was not created and my old settings were not saved in the XML file. It appears the upgrade completly overwrote the old install.
