Pidgin: Gaim 2.0.0beta 5 crashes on exit

Submitted by CyberJedi on January 14, 2007 - 9:18am

Anyone having a problem with Gaim Portable 2.0.0beta 5 crashing when you go to exit by either directly closing the app or by signing off your accounts, and then exiting?? This happening multiple times.

This just started happening to me yesterday. I haven't made any changes to my O/S (Windows XP Home SP2) or anything for that matter. I run it off my laptop and have been doing so since its inception. I've never had this problem with prior versions of Gaim Portable on my laptop either. I even ran my older version 1.5.0 to make sure it that runs fine.

Miranda 0.6 ;)

I know it is a bit early to ask, but will the 0.6 version (released December 29th) be modified as a portable app? This would be so great, because with 0.5.1 I can't establish a File Transfer Connection between the original-ICQ-client users and I hope that this will change with the new version (UPnP).

Many thanks for the great work done so far!

Greetings and best wishes for 2007!

Pidgin: Using Gaim Portable with Novell

Submitted by SHS on December 13, 2006 - 11:01am

I am having trouble using Gaim Portable with my office computer that runs Novell and GroupWise. Previously, I could not use regular Gaim with my office computer, but was able to download, install and use Yahoo Messenger through Port 80. A recent change by our IT folks has rendered YM unusuable. So, I went to Gaim Portable on my flash drive. (I use Gaim exclusively on my home computers.) For both YM and Gaim Portable I get a message that it could not connect -- or, sometimes, that I am disconnected (before I even knew I was connected). Can anyone help? Thank you!

Miranda: Missing DLL

Submitted by mps69 on December 12, 2006 - 3:01pm

This is the first time I've really used IM's and Miranda so I'm still crawling.
I've hit on 2 small problems. Firstly Miranda work fine on my home PC. I've install a few plugin, modern mainly and installed a couple of skins. When I take my drive to my work PC I get an error, "missing msvcr71.dll". This does effect the skins mainly. I've read that I can D/L this dll and have it installed on the flash drive. Is this true, if so where do I put it?
Another problem I've got is the smiles. I've got to change the path everytime I move the drive to another PC. Is there a work around for this one.

Pidgin: invisible text bug on portable FIXED!

Submitted by chriskmee on December 11, 2006 - 6:43pm

well, when i downloaded gaim portable, i noticed alot of words were "invisible" or were partly gone. so i worked on it and was able to fix it. what i did was download gaim (non portable) 1.5 with gtx. i downloaded to to my desktop, so your file locations may be different. but anyways.... i found a folder named "gaim" on my desktop, but it actually contains all the gtk info, not gaim info. all i did was delete on my flashdrive gaimportable/app/gtk and put the gaim folder from my desktop right where the origional folder was. then i renamed the "gaim" folder to gtk. All done. it would be nice if this was put onto gaim portable so you wouldn't have to do this to make it work properly. hope this helps and i hope this glitch can be fixed for future downloads.
