GIMP 2.10 won't open on XP

Submitted by pbr on May 10, 2018 - 9:38am

I did some looking around on the 'net and GIMP 2.10 doesn't seem to have been deprecated for XP, but it won't open on my old offline machine at all. (In Task Manager, GIMPPortable.exe appears briefly and then disappears.) This is a completely vanilla virgin install on a usb with the customary path (~:\PortableApps\GIMPPortable\), XP SP3 x86, English language. Opens okay on Win7, haven't tried on Win10.

GIMP 2.10 File Directory

Submitted by harris83 on May 8, 2018 - 1:47pm

I did a clean install of GIMP 2.10 Portable yesterday. When I try to open a file in another drive in the file directory, there is no response. I have to open up windows file explorer and drag and drop the file I want to use to the GIMP file directory and create a bookmark the file if I want to close and reopen GIMP. The directory worked fine in previous versions. I completely uninstalled the old version of Gimp from Portable Apps. Is a fix in the future for this problem?

I used portable 6.4 version to batch crop my image files, kaspersky stopped it after it process the fourth file and detected malware behavior. so i installed 6.4 original version on the same computer and do the same task, kaspersky detect nothing and I successfully completed my task.

So, what you put in the portable version?

I trusted apps from your website, please help to solve it.

Thank you very much.

GIMP Portable 2.8.22 and earlier incorrectly set the default font path for the PortableApps.com Platform to \PortableApps\Data\fonts instead of \PortableApps\PortableApps.com\Data\fonts. The gimprc file within DefaultData should read as follows:
